Open "Active Directory Users and Computers". Whilst you don't need to I'd suggest creating a new organisational unit for the company you've taken over, then inside that create one new contact for each user in the other company. That should be it. Any contacts won't normally be available to users until the following day because the address book is rebuilt over night (and typically not pulled down by outlook until someone starts it up). If you can't wait that long and want to check that the contacts you've added are there then run up "Exchange System Manager", expand "Recipients" then "Offline Address Lists", right click "Default offline address list" (or each if you have more than one) and select "Rebuild". Despite the warning message rebuilding the address list seems to be quite quick. In Outlook you can then pull down the new address book using Tools > Send/Receive > Download Address Book ... Hope this helps. -- Brian Cryer www.cryer.co.uk/brian |

Thanks for your reply Brian I think that will take me all day to add 40 users That will not affect the licening will it? I thought I could go into all lists from exchange then add a new list e.i roki then some how import the 40 users with the email address os branch001@roki.com then branch002@roki.com Cheers "Brian Cryer" <not.here@localhost> wrote in message news:u3kKgTYHJHA.2580@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > "Jason" <Jason@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:%23$ePkFYHJHA.3736@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> Hi All >> >> Question on Exchange 2003 We has take over by another company I would >> like to add about 40 new email address of the company we have take over >> to the public address book can this be done? > > Open "Active Directory Users and Computers". Are these 40 going to be logging into the SBS to send and receive mail? If so your licensing definitely will be affected and you need to determine if you have enough CALs to cover the increase. Hi Steve No there will not be logging on to the server I thought it be would be nice for the internal users to have a list of the new emails of the new company on the server instead of going to each pc in the company and import the new branch contacts cheers "SteveB" <newsgroup@public.lan> wrote in message news:%236EtLiYHJHA.4296@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Are these 40 going to be logging into the SBS to send and receive mail? If so, you probably need CALs first - but then, you'll need to create new user accounts for each of them. You can do this by importing if you know how to do fancy things with LDIFDE, etc., but it's a huge PITA and probably not worth it. You can set up multiple users easily enough in the SBS add user wizard GUI. You will also need to add their domain to your recipient policy, or set up another recipient policy and apply filtering. If these are not users who will be accessing mail on your server, but who have their own server and you just need to add them as contacts in AD so your users know their addresses, those are AD mail-enabled contacts. Google for ldifde or csvde. |

If you were adding 40 user accounts that would be different. I don't know a way to import a list - that doesn't mean that there isn't a way just that I don't know of one. It might be worth posting to microsoft.public.exchange.admin since that newsgroup is Exchange specific and if there is a way of importing a list of contacts then someone there may be able to point you in the right direction. -- Brian Cryer www.cryer.co.uk/brian |

Then just follow Brian's info to create them as contacts. That shouldn't take you more than an hour not an entire day. It can allegedly be done from LDIF or CSV format, using either of two Microsoft utilities, but I once spent half a day trying to migrate 80 from Exchange 5.5, then gave up and typed them. I do know a bit about LDAP, but SBS complained about there being multiple DC components, and no amount of parentheses seemed to fix it... -- Joe |

Oh, it can be done with ldif and perfectly suited when you have many many to do and have an export file to work from. For "bulk" contact creation in SBS scale it's often much easier to do with the DSADD tool. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc771883.aspx -- /kj |

Personally, though, I'd leave them all in the GAL. Outside of huge enterprise environments with multiple locations/sub-companies I think it looks better to leave everything in one place, and it's easier. You aren't likely to have that large a GAL with SBS. |
