| MMC has detected an error in a snap-in
Hello, I have a problem with my small business server it is the same problem that many other people are getting but none of the fixes seem to work. When i open Active Directory Users and computers Snap in i get the following Error "access is denied" ID no c0070005 then when i click ok i get "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in" "Report to microsoft and then shut down MMC" or "Ignore this error and continue running". This only happens when im logged in as the administrator i can access it fine in any of my other admin accounts but not the built in administrator accound. I have tried to change the access rights on certain registery values as stated on a few web sites i have even downloaded the hot fix but this still doesn't work. Does anyone know how i can fix this problem. But it only happens in my built in administrator account can create a new acocunt with administrator privlages and it works fine. Does any one have any ideas? Thanks David |

| RE: MMC has detected an error in a snap-in
Hi, Thanks for your post. Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I understand it, the issue is: Recently, you have encountered an issue with your SBS 2003 server. When trying to open the Active Directory Users and Computers console, error message "access is denied" and "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in" etc. is received. The problem only occur when using built-in Administrator account and other domain users don't have this issue. If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know. Before we go further, I would like to know: What's SBS 2003 edition and version you are using? Is it SBS 2003 R2 version ? Has applied Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2)? First, if it has not applied Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2), please upgrade it with latest SP and later updates. Based on me research, I'd like to suggest you consider the following steps to check the built-in Administrator's permission properties and "Member of" property. Go to the built-in Administrator's properties, make sure built-in Administrator's is NOT member of "Domain Guests" group and make sure and "Domain users" group is NOT member of any "Guest" groups. After the above checking, let's double check the Domain Guests group to verify the configuration. 1) On the SBS server, in the Run box, type adsiedit.msc and open it. 2) Expanded domain > DC > Users > Domain Guests > Properties 3) Opened "Member" attribute and remove "Domain Users" from there if it is listed. 4) Logged off and logged in again. More related information: Error message when you open a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in after you install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 or Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Technologies: "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947532/en-us If the issue persists, please let me know if the same issue occurs when opening other MMC consoles , like "Exchange System Management" etc? Hope this helps. Best regards, Robbin Meng(MSFT) Microsoft CSS Online Newsgroup Support |
