| Exchange Mailbox Creation Problem
When adding a user, the Add New User Wizard adds the user, but does not create an Exchange Mailbox, or create the default email address. Additionally, when deleting a user, the Exchange mailbox remains on the server. (User is deleted, and the Exchange Manager shows the ex-User's GUID for the Last Logon info.) During the Addition and Deletion Wizards, I didn't get any notification about generating or deleting the Exchange mailboxes. How did this get disconnected, and how can it be fixed? Any assistance would be appreciated. |

Hi, Have you made any changes to exchange or active directory? In ADUC when you right click a user account and go propertys, do you get the exchange tabs? Dennis, After you create a new user account, ask the user to logon and at that time the mailbox will be created. As far as how long a deleted mailbox stays on the server has to do with the 'Deletion settings' on the mailbox store. The default is 30 days. Right click on the Mailbox store, select Properties and click on the 'Limits' tab. The setting is towards the bottom of the window. Hope that helps -- Costas http://costas.cpstechgroup.com "Dennis Tooker" <DennisTooker@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:26DBA113-D37F-4E72-9E8C-1191FF51C523@microsoft.com... > When adding a user, the Add New User Wizard adds the user, but does not > create an Exchange Mailbox, or create the default email address. > > Additionally, when deleting a user, the Exchange mailbox remains on the > server. Mat, I had made changes to the Power User template some time ago, which I admit could be a problem, but I don't know where to look for settings that would chage the Exchange integration. Costas, Thanks- that might resole the deletion problem. As far as creation, it was when I was doing the inital login of the new user and trying to connect Outlook that I became aware of the issue, since Outlook said that there was no mailbox that matched the user. It could be an 'order of operation' issue as well- this particular PC was already in use, and the new user was not set up locally before trying to run the setup for new user program, possibly causing it to fail before creating the mailbox. Is there a way to re-trigger this, or should I just try deleting the user from the server and re-creating, the log on the local PC as admin, give the new domain user local rights, and log in as the new user on that box? | Re: Exchange Mailbox Creation Problem
I won't delete the user account just yet. Just reboot the machine ( the 'potential' solution ;-) ), then ask the user to login with the new account and see if you can setup Outlook. If that doesn't work, try connecting with the user credentials using Outlook Web Access. See if that works. If it does, re-login on the computer and setup Outlook. If none of the above work, add the user as a local Admin (on the client machine) and see if you can set him/her up like that -- Costas http://costas.cpstechgroup.com "Dennis Tooker" <DennisTooker@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:844B6547-3B47-4002-BB39-C0B7DBAE28EA@microsoft.com... > Costas, > > Thanks- that might resole the deletion problem. > > As far as creation, it was when I was doing the inital login of the new > user > and trying to connect Outlook that I became aware of the issue, since > Outlook > said that there was no mailbox that matched the user. > > It could be an 'order of operation' issue as well- this particular PC was > already in use, and the new user was not set up locally before trying to > run > the setup for new user program, possibly causing it to fail before > creating > the mailbox. Hi Dennis Be sure that the latest Service packs for SBS and Exchange are installed on your server. SP2 in both cases. -- Frank McCallister SBS MVP MCP Microsoft Small Business Specialist COMPUMAC "Dennis Tooker" <DennisTooker@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:26DBA113-D37F-4E72-9E8C-1191FF51C523@microsoft.com... > When adding a user, the Add New User Wizard adds the user, but does not > create an Exchange Mailbox, or create the default email address. > > Additionally, when deleting a user, the Exchange mailbox remains on the > server. Thanks. SP2 for Exchange fixed it- the server was on 2003 SP2, but Exchange wasn't.
