office update KB943985 failed install by WSUS

If I am manually downloading the KB943985 for office excel 2003 and installing it then I am getting an error code 0x80070641 with another error popping up while the install is completing:

The first popup window tells that "User 'SYSTEM' has previously initiated an install for product 'Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003' That user will need to run that install again before they can use that product. Your current
install will now continue."

So, after I click the OK button then I will get another popup that says "Error 1705. A previous installation for this product is in progress. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes? Yes or No."

If I select Yes then it seem that the update was still not applied? Any ideas? Thanks

The first question that comes to my mind is that, did you try to restart the computer or not?

I had the same problem in Vista and to solve it I did the following:

1. First of all we need to go to %SYSTEM%/system32 directory and find the file mapisvc.inf
2. After that open the Properties option, then go to the Security tab
3. Now we have to click the Advanced button, then go to the Owner tab
4. After that we have to click Edit, then change the Ower to the Administrators group
5. Now, click on the OK button and get back to the Security tab (agree with dialogs to get there) and then click the Edit button and grant full control to the Administrators group.
6. After that reapply the patch and everthing will work properly.
