Cannot open WSUS console

Hello,
Started having this problem a few days ago, still have not found any
solutions. WSUS 3 running on 2K3 server. It has been running fine
since I updated this summer [whenever 3.0 was released]. All of the
sudden when I try to open the admin console I get a message that "An
unexpected error ocurred" and that the snap-in will be unloaded. I
also get Event ID 7053 in the Application log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows Server Update Services
Event Category: None

Computer: LABSERVERIX
Description:

This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration
console. If this error persists, Try removing the persisted
preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%

Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions? If it comes down to it, is
there a way to reinstall WSUS without losing my groups, approvals,
etc?

TIA,
Andy

I also have had the exact same issue. I tried looking for and answer and
even uninstalled and reinstalled (I have a small site). This still did not
work and the issues have grown as I now have SQL as well as the Update
Services issues. None of my computers have been updated and all is a mess.
I als need some help and direction to resolve this.

Re: Cannot open WSUS console

I just restored HKLM\Software\ from last thursday, and the console is
open now! Will be checking to ensure everything works correctly, but
at least I can get into it now. Hopefully you are backing up your
registry and can do the same. It might be able to be restored through
System Restore as well - don't know. If I come across any problems I
will post them here.
