Upgrade WSUS Build 2.0.0.2620 to WSUS 3.0

I hope this has not been addressed but I would like to upgrade to 3.0 from
my current build.

(Background)
I have WSUS 2 installed on a server running Win2003 RC2 with SQL Server
2000. They both reside on the same server.

Will there be any ill effects if I do install verison 3.0 with the included
database engine. I'm not concerned if I can't transfer the database as I only
have 275 workstations.

I don't think SQL Server 2000 is supported under WSUS 3.0 . With 275
workstations,
you only need to use the Windows internal database and you should be
good.
Do a fresh install of WSUS is the simple answer. Use WSUSMigration
Tools if you want to migrate your approvals, TargetGroups, etc. But
with 275 workstations, why bother.

The installed database is used for a couple of other applications. Will this
pose any type of problem have 2 versions of sql on the same box?

No. WSUS 3 will migrate the WSUS 2 database from SQL 2000 to the Windows
Internal Database, and leave everything else intact and undisturbed.

The WID and SQL 2000 will happily coexist side by side.
