VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 SP5

Hi All,

Has anyone been able to backup the WSUS 3.0 database using Veritas
BackupExec 9.1 SP5 /w Advance Open File Agent & SQL Agent ?

I was able to backup the WSUS 2.0; but now, I get an error when selecting
the MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE database in the Veritas Backup Job -> Selections.

"An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of
WSUSSERVER\MICROSOFT##SSEE. Microsoft SQL Server does not appear to be
running or network connections are preventing access to it."

The Event Log reports:

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE
Event Category: (4)
Event ID: 18452

Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\VeritasAdmin'. The user is not associated with
a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: <named pipe>]

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Backup Exec
Event Category: None
Event ID: 57860

An error occurred while attempting to log in to the following server:
"WSUSSERVER\MICROSOFT##SSEE".
SQL error number: "4814".
SQL error message: "Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\VeritasAdmin'. The user
is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."

Any insights would be appreciated.

Cheers,

HilaireG

Well, the first question would be: Does Veritas BackupExec 9.1 support SQL
Server =2005= as a backup source?

Or, it could simply be that you need to create the missing account in the
database.

Re: VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 SP5

Veritas 9.1 does NOT support SQL 2005 and never will according to Symantec.

Re: VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 SP5

Thanks all for the responses.

This is correct ... will have to upgrade to an newer version of Backup Exec
(and its agents).

The Deployment Guide should probably contain more information regarding 3rd
Party vendor backups as it would assist folks who may not have the luxury of
a "test" environment.

Cheers,

That was my gut feeling. Thank you for the confirmation, John.

Humor me, please?

Why do you feel it's the responsibility of Microsoft to provide detailed
guidance on the use of third-party backup products, when NTBACKUP is
perfectly capable of backing up the full WSUS environment as good as, or
better than, any other third-party product on the market? The Deployment
Guide provides detailed instructions on how to use NTBACKUP for this very
purpose.

Hi,

I will just add that Symantec stopped supporting VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 on
January 18 2007.

Yeah.. I knew it was an *older* version.... just didn't know exactly how
old, and whether it predated SQL 2005.
