error 0x80070643 with wsus

When attempting to install WSUS on Server 2008 R2 SP1 I receive the following error

I am getting the below error when I am trying to install WSUS on Server 2008 R2 SP1:

There seems to be an issue related when installing Windows Internal Database rather than WSUS itself and IIS is installing properly.

Can anyone help me rectify this issue. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I think the most resemblance of this error code generates when anyone is trying to install an office update and the installer is unable to find the installation media or image. You could try testing with a tool called LIS office for the source installation and then delete it and after that enable source. Another thing that you can try is to copy OSE.exe from CD Rom. If that doesnt work either then try to reinstall the Microsoft office and see if that works.

Even I was having this issue on a notebook that was never reported to WSUS, so after fiddling around with many network and firewall problems, WSUS update installed properly but Internet Explorer 7 was not able to install and gave this same error message. But soon after I found out that Windows installation did not had the WGA controls installed on this notebook which didnt pass the check either. After passing the check IE7 was able to install without any issues.

You can easily fix this problem by migrating the FSMO roles and other critical domain information. After that just format the server and install it as new and migrate everything back to it. You will be able to see that WSUS and Windows Internal Database both will be working fine without any issues. This kind of problem normally happens when there is something corrupt or missing in the registry. You can also refer to some solutions given on this site - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920660
