| WSUS Install Failure on Win2k3 Std. (PSFSIP failed to install)
Installing WSUS on a virgin Windows 2003 Std. Server with all critical updates applied, all pre-reqs installed and SQL Server 2000 3a installed. It fails when installing PSFSIP (can't find any reference to that via Google except an older SUS forum and no reference to it via Microsoft's search!). I'm installing using a domain admin account...this box is not a DC but a member server. Here are the relevant log portions (with datetimestamp removed for brevity): Success ASP.Net is installed successfully Error Failed to open MSI package: C:\WSUSSetup\ENU\SUS\WUSSetup.msi (Error 0x80070003: The system cannot find the path specified.) Error Failed to determine if locale is English. Assuming non-english ... (Error 0x80070003: The system cannot find the path specified.) Success MSXML2 is already installed on this machine Success Initializing MWUS installation Success Installing PSFSIP Success VerInstallFile return code: 65536 Error Failed to install PSFSIP (Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error) Error InstallPSFSIP failed (Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error) Error Installation of PSFSIP failed (Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error) Error PerformInstall failed (Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error) Success Rolling back Installation Notice it says that it can't figure out the locale...which is a nice touch. I looked at my Region settings for that server and it shows that it is setup for English (US), so I'm not sure where the confusion is. I even have advanced text services disabled for that server. Ideas? anyone? |

Todd, Can you zip and send me the following in email please? -contents of %program files%\update services\logs directory -%windir%\setupapi.log I don't think that a separate log is created in %windir% for PSFSIP since it is part of the WSUS install, but you might want to sort the contents of %windir% by date and see if there is a log with roughly the same timestamp as your failed WSUS install. -don -- Don Cottam Microsoft Corporation Windows Server Update Services donco AT microsoft DOT com (I prefer to communicate through the newsgroup, so please do not email me unless necessary...but if necessary, don't hesitate to email me. try this: 1. regsvr32 /u psfsip.dll 2. rename psfsip.dll in %windir%\system32 to OLD-psfsip.dll 3. try install again |
