WSUS Clients Not Appearing/Reporting to Server

Hello,

We just installed a WSUS server here, which will be controlling all updates for desktops, laptops and Servers. Updates will be controlled by Group Policy.

We've set everything up, the WSUS is running, updating, but doesn't see ANY machines.

We setup the group policy with all the correct information, checked the policy is working and that the test machines (one laptop and one desktop at the moment) are in the policy and that it is active. Also, we verified that communication from the test machines can occur to the WSUS (Using these steps). I am aware that only the two test machines should appear in the WSUS list.
Also for the WSUS policy, we have all other policies blocked to make sure it's not a conflict (we have a security policy that inhibits Windows Update which will be removed once this is done).

WSUS Server specs:
Windows 2003 Standard SP2
WSUS v.3.2.7600.226

Client test machine specs:
Windows XP Pro SP2 (Desktop)
Windows XP Pro SP3 (Laptop)

Final notes, information and thoughts, we are a medium business with a single domain structure that includes about 70 desktops, 40 laptops and 25 servers that will need to be configured once this issue is resolved.

We ran the client diagnostic tests (all come back ok).
(see below)

Here is your problem. The correct syntax is just

http://wsus:8530

Correct this in your group policy and everything should work.

Harry.

Re: WSUS Clients Not Appearing/Reporting to Server

I made the change and all is good...
<forehead slap>

Three days... and it was so simple.
At least I know I did the rest right.
:D

Thank you!
