Very slow connection to a drive mapped to domain DFS root

    Hi,

Our Domain DFS root \\corp.domain.com\globalshare is mapped to z: drive.

These are the issues that our users have experienced lately:
    1. The line net use z: \\corp.domain.com\globalshare freezes when login.bat
    script runs at login.
    2. - Opening files from z: drive or saving files to z: drive is taking very
long time and sometimes hang. If the user go through My Network Places and
open the files, everything works without any issue. There is no issue as well
when NetBIOS name is used in the mapping like net use y:
    \\dfs-server\globalshare

This could be DNS related but I have a good response when doing nslookup to
    \\corp.contoso.com\globalshare.

Also, I can't see anything from the results of dfsutil.

    Please help.

    Regards,
    Archie

If your internal domain "corp.domain.com" is in the same DNS namespace as
your public domain "domain.com" this could very well be a wildcard in the
public domain causing this issue when the DNS client service appends
domain.com to the name e.g. "corp.domain.com.domain.com". As a quick fix add
a trailing "." after the domain name in the drive mapping, e.g. net use z:
\\corp.domain.com.\globalshare will stop the DNS client from appending
    suffixes,

A more permanent fix is to remove domain.com from the DNS suffix search list
    on all clients.
