Event ID 4521 & 9999 after Upgrade to Server 2003 SP2

Hi,

I have posted this question before in this forum. But I am having problems
with the recommended solution again.

I have upgraded Server 2003 std. to SP2 and I got event id 4521 & 9999 every
3 minutes on both my DNS event viewer. It goes off when I use dnscmd /config
/bootmethod 3 command.

But when I restart the sever it again comes back. This is happening every
time I restart the server and both of the servers. Can anyone give me
solution for this DNS problem?

Any ideal will be appreciated..

With regards,
Hemal

Can you post the full details from the 4521?

There are a couple of things that can produce 4521 events, depending on what
the details say, depends on what you do to fix it.

9999 events indicate that there are repeated events being blocked by DNS
from being logged in Event Viewer
The 4521 events may be causing the 9999 events.

Re: Event ID 4521 & 9999 after Upgrade to Server 2003 SP2

Hi Kevin,

Thank you very much for your reply. Now I am getting both of these events
every after 63 minutes. Before I was only getting every 3 minutes. Following
are the details of both the events:

Event 4521

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DNS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4521
Date: 7/31/2008
Time: 12:38:58 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DELLSERVER
Description:
The DNS server encountered error 9002 attempting to load zone . from Active
Directory. The DNS server will attempt to load this zone again on the next
timeout cycle. This can be caused by high Active Directory load and may be a
transient condition.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event 9999

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DNS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 9999
Date: 7/31/2008
Time: 12:38:58 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DELLSERVER
Description:
The DNS server has encountered numerous run-time events. To determine the
initial cause of these run-time events, examine the DNS server event log
entries that preceded these run-time events. The data is the number of events
that have been suppressed in the last 60 minute interval.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 14 00 00 00

Let me know if you need more information. Thank you again for your help.

With best regards,
Hemal

Create a new zone, store it in Active Directory, name it with a "."(dot),
let it replicate to all DCs. Then remove the zone from AD by clearing the
"Store in Active Directory" check box, force a replication, then delete the
zone.

the 9999 events are probably being caused by the 4521 events. Clear those
up, and the 9999 events will likely stop.

Re: Event ID 4521 & 9999 after Upgrade to Server 2003 SP2

Hi Kevin,

Yes. I did. Tell me one thing though when we talk about replicatioin to all
DCs menas it should appear in DNS snap-in of all DC's.

What I did i created "." zone as I already have "kbgca.local" zone. So I
had two zones for some time and I waited untill these two zones appeared to
others DC's. Then I removed the "." zone by clearing the check box and again
waited to disappear from other DC's. At last I deleted "." zone from my
domain controller.

I notice that when I had "." zone, I was not able to use internet on that
DNS server. Is it ok?

Please correct me if I did anything wrong...

Thanks,
Hemal
