| Windows security Centre..shield symbol.... My security "shield" symbol has a red circle with an X in the middle; I have tried to update everything, which shows it's up to date, but it remains the same. I had the AVG free anti-virus on there and it kept saying parts of it were out of date, although I updated these and they were successfully updated, it too had the red ball with a + or something in it...no matter how many times it was supposedly updated. I ended up removing it and re-installing it and the results are still the same. I cannot get the security shield back to it's normal symbol either. I currently have nothing on there except firewall as I think if I download it again, it will still be the same. Thankyou. Sheri |

| RE: Windows security Centre..shield symbol.... You're infected. I don't know name of threat (could be karna.dat or brastk.exe), but I just cleaned this pc of those (along with multiple other trojans, viruses, etc.). AVG has "done a Norton" they used to do 1 thing very well, now they do everything poorly. Try downloading Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, or Malware Bytes AntiMalware. And then start pc in safe mode with networking, then scan, scan and scan again. You can get all these for free at download.com (Note: With these viruses I had problems installing some of the programs.) These are the sites I checked out to help me fix this pc: forums.mcafeehelp.com community.norton.com bleepingcomputer.com geekstogo.com I mostly used them to figure out what I had. If you're gonna do google searches to help you, make sure you have McAfee SiteAdvisor. A lot of links that displayed from the searches I did were not recommended. Good luck. Hope this helped. NOT literally that youre infected it means your Security Software didn’t qualify to the standard set by Windows Security Centre to protect your machine and also there are known issue that Windows Security Center has some concern identifying 3rd Party protection tool's status if its updated or not. Have you ever experienced a "yellow shield w/exclamation point". Whenever that is showing in the bottom right corner of my desktop, my IE program is unresponsive. Thanks. I was having the same problem and checked my clock/calendar thanks to an earlier post about website certificate problems. My calendar was on wrong month/year--once I fixed that, my AVG was fixed as well. Good luck!
