I think the best thing to do is to download the new version of Avast. Usually they will no longer provide support and updates for the older versions.

Try to isolate the problem. Maybe startup on safe mode and try to observe if it still shuts down without doing nothing, if it does then it may not be a virus but a hardware issue.
