Ubisoft on Wednesday announced Shaun White Snowboarding for Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii, the latter of which will support Balance Board foot controls.

The Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of the game are being developed using the Assassin's Creed graphics engine, while the the Wii version promises Balance Board integration and an exclusive storyline. Online multiplayer and video uploads were also announced for non-Wii versions; Wii gets 4-person offline multiplayer. This may remind you a bit of the popular Amped series. The entire game exists online at all times (though you can play offline if you like). The mountain will have between 16-32 gamers depending on how much juice Ubisoft can squeeze out of the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Those boarders will be on the mountain with you at all times. You can free roam and just have some fun, hop into multiplayer modes, or target single-player challenges.

Leaving your board behind also allows you to film friends performing their skills, or throw snowballs at them to put them off their lines. As for tricks, SWS will use both analogue sticks in an intriguing effort to broaden the opportunity for airborne acrobatics - and Ubisoft claims SWS will be built on physics, not animation, promising a weightier, more satisfying feel to the action.Every move in the game is one that Shaun White has pulled off in some capacity -- and most likely during a mo-cap session. You won't be stringing together dozens of tricks while executing star power or any of that crap. This is a slightly more slow-paced and skill-based game.

SWS is a phsyics-based game that factors in gravity and friction. The board you choose has an affect on your performance on the snow. The snow itself plays its own part. Your board cuts through powder a bit slower and turns wider, while you'll move faster on packed snow. The surface your boarder is on looks to play a big role in how your board reacts to your input. There's been a good deal of focus during development on ensuring that different conditions will all feel unique. Riding on hard-pack snow, for example, will make carving difficult, while on power, there will be more sliding as you make your way down the mountain

At first blush, the game seems to provide a slightly more realistic take on snowboarding than snowboarding games in the past have done. Sure, there are still high-flying jumps and lots of tricks to pull off, but, at least in the build we saw, everything seemed to be a bit toned down from the SSX games we've all been playing for the past few years. There were neither neon signs to blast through nor any turbo boosts ; it looks to play it pretty straight. That isn't to say that the game is completely free from spectacle, however. In fact, the visuals we saw in Shaun White--which is being built with the same engine used in Assassin's Creed--were impressive indeed, with big, realistic-looking player models and environments that were massive to say the least.

There are four moutains in SWS, including Alaska, Park City and Japan. Each mountain features up to three different sections: peak, back country and park (or resort). All three offer very different challenges and completely change the way you'll use your board. At the peak, it's all about getting big air, sliding on the lips of canyons and building speed.

This "XTREME! YEH!!" sort of sport, Shaun White himself will be on hand to guide you through the action and help develop your skills.it's a very mellow-looking experience that should give gamers the sensation of snowboarding without the personal risk of breaking bones.
