Silent Hill Homecoming THE Sixth Series of horror

Terrifying new entry in the legendary horror series, Silent Hill:Homecoming

It's the game where you've lost before you've even begun, sending you on mostly hopeless quests to find the muddled truth of your deranged state of mind. The Silent Hill: Homecoming introduces another protagonist to the mythos. The story follows Alex Shepherd, returning to his hometown of Shepherd’s Glen to investigate the sudden disappearance of his brother. From Shepherd’s Glen to Silent Hill, Alex must face the darkest of horrors in order to find his brother. Is there a more freaked out series in gaming than Silent Hill?

Their first priority is to "get it right." While it's impossible to tell from our brief hands-on time with the game whether they achieved this first goal, we were appeased by their claim that this game will represent an evolution of the series and not a revolution. And it was quickly easy to see what they meant, as the game looked and felt just like Silent Hill. If someone just plopped you down in front of it, you would immediately know what series Homecoming belonged in. Thick fog? Check. Dread-inducing atmospheric music? Check. Terrifying shadows lurking at the borders of your vision? Check? And finally, naked white beasts with twin axe blades for heads, and the pervasive theme of a hospital gone wrong, wrong, wrong? Oh yes, this is Silent Hill.

system was tied to the combat, which has always been focused upon the "everyman" concept of the main character. Silent Hill characters have never been extraordinarily skilled with firearms or their weapons, so it made it much more realistic that there was a hit or miss quality to battle. However, since Alex has some experience in combat (being a Gulf War vet), he's a bit more skilled. In fact, this is perhaps the deepest combat system ever seen in a Silent Hill game, with both light and heavy attacks that can be chained together in any sequence or powered up for harder strikes. What's more, Alex can now perform light or heavy counter attacks, as well as perfect or imperfect dodges.

As you find your way outside, your quiet little town is covered in the all too familiar fog. Behind a truck, you hear a rustling and investigate. A small child, who was eating something back there, darts away, lost in the mist. You immediately identify him as your missing brother.Even though your own family members are now strangers, the controls and combat should be very familiar.

The big addition is the ability to block and counterattack. When evil strikes, you can hit a button to block most of the damage. However, if you hit it at just the perfect moment, you'll dodge completely out of the way, leaving your enemies open for a stunning counterattack. Once they're stunned, you can move in and finish them off with a cinematic, lethal blow. Finally, the collective wanted to ensure that Silent Hill's Homecoming was scary, and at least in the cases we saw, they succeeded.Even with these homages in mind, there were some changes that have been made for the better as well. Environments appear to be more interactive than ever before, with Alex easily knocking over IV stands, bookshelves or other items. With a bunch of regulars returning, including those scalpel-wielding nurses, along with some new creatures including Siam, a mutated mess of male and female organs just begging to haunt your weirdest dreams, and a beastie called Smog, who vomits gas and seeps boil puss, this latest fear foray is going to terrorize anyone with a weak disposition.
