After duration of long 11 years, the Devil May Cry shows the same recipe but an excellent bestiary, packed with an unbeaten adventure and perfectly balanced. In addition this episode is indeed based on the grind 60 Hz, much faster than it was on PS2. With Hideki Kamiya as director, Viewtiful Joe and Okami, Bayonetta, as executive producer no wonder he left such a great game. The title that promoted and popularized the genre of hack and slash in the last ten years with swords and guns, now it seems to us more an action adventure than just a fighting game, which shows now a little awkward, especially because of reduced scenarios, static cameras and certain control decisions. It also has little moments of exploration, some puzzle, we get various weapons and upgrades, and get much better storylines.
Its static camera system, and some customization in the control may not have aged all that well, but graphically still very nice, thanks to successful artwork in a Gothic-inspired castle that could have come from the imagination of Antonio Gaudi. But the videos are hoorible and it is the thing where they failed this time. Even resolution is very poor, showing much better when only using the game engine itself, which has granted well the way to high definition. This does not mean that you are not noticing the years, especially in low resolution textures, and some effects like fire, which appears very pixelated, but in general, and for more than ten years is not bad. But the pleasure we get with this is the 60 FPS.
In fact, though Devil May Cry 2 has brought a lot of elements to the series such as greater flexibility in the movements or the opportunity to play two characters – it faced several problems. Problems like missing the system lock completely, camera trouble or an adventure divided into two parts, the first being as nice as the second is boring and awkward. In short, without minimizing its qualities, DMC 2 has endured strong criticism, although in the end, it is nevertheless a good action game. I can say that Devil May Cry 3 has raised the bar with several fighting styles the same with greater variety in the way of understanding the fighting. Furthermore, with a much more convincing visual and an inspired bestiary, the episode has managed to make us forget the disappointment caused by DMC 2.
What were the developer’s faults in DMC2? Though it may sound a little cruel, basically everything was the fault. There was nothing adventurous or exploration in DMC 2, and the development was 100% focused on action, and controlling two characters, i.e. Dante and Lucia. Everything was poorly designed, with far less charisma, and an unforgettable story. Dante's skills were enhanced, with the double sato, the ability to run up walls in general was quick and agile, but paradoxically this was not reflected in improved combo system, and had a somewhat unbalanced difficulty. Graphical improvement was very clear over the first episode, but instead the artistic design was much worse, with some very nasty enemies and nothing inspired, even gameplay was far from the charm of first Devil May Cry.
