    Motorola Atrix 2 smartphone

2 weeks ago we told you about the availability of the Motorola Atrix 2 in India and now we are here to check out this phone in detail. So lets proceed ahead with the review of this product.

Motorola Atrix 2 which was announced last year is not much different from its predecessor Motorola Atrix. Only few differences are made like a 1GHz dual core processor, a good camera and also availability at a very low price. Like the original, Motorola Atrix, even the Atrix 2 features the ability to connect with a Lapdock and lets you use it as a notebook. However a bad thing for Indian users it is said that ‘Motorola will not be releasing the Lapdock accessory in India.’ Let’s have a look at the design of the phone.

    Design
Motorola Atrix 2 does not have much to speak about its design, its not as attractive as the Razr it resembles Atrix a lot in shape and form as well. the screen size is 4.3 inches which is a bit bigger from the original Motorola Atrix. The 4.3 inch screen produces 960 x 540 resolution which is really good for watching movies and playing games. Motorola Atrix 2 has a TFT screen, which is quite responsive as well as bright and clear. Atrix 2 has good curves which makes it very comfortable in our hands. The fingerprint scanner which was there in the Atrix is missing from the Atrix 2.

Motorola Atrix 2 has a noise cancellation microphone, 3.5mm headset jack, distinguishable volume rocker, shutter key, regular microphone, microHDMI-out port, and microUSB port on the sides and the top of the phone. the great thing about the phone is the 8 megapixel rear camera, which shoots up with the perfection and is very handy in capturing some HD videos. On opening up the back plastic cover of the phone we get to see the 1,785 mAh battery, SIM card slot, and microSD card slot. The phone comes packed with a 2GB of micro sd card, 8GB internal memory. The weight of the phone is 147g with 10mm thickness.

    Specification and Features

Following are the specifications of this phone

Motorola ATRIX 2 comes with a GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor which gives a real performance in the phone. the processor powered with a 1GB of ram is capable of providing a very responsive platform experience. Motorola ATRIX 2 runs on a Motorola’s customized Android interface which is known as MOTOBLUR. We found the interface quite dashy providing us the heavy 3D effects in the phone. we can do lot of personalization’s on the phone with stock and Motorola widgets resized to any length.

The interface for contacts and calling is quite simple. The interface and the function for making calls are the same as of the Atrix. A Google Search button is given below the screen for the voice search function. This function is the same as the of the Apple’s Siri but it is not effective as the siri. For accessing the contacts press the phone dialer button and then press the Contacts tab. You can also sync facebook and twitter contacts.

Motorola Atrix 2 comes with a all range of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, A-GPS, HSDPA and Bluetooth. It lacks a NFC support which was earlier there in the Atrix. Motorola Atrix 2 will be getting the ICS update by the end of Q3 of 2012.

Motorola Atrix 2 has a handbuild set of applications that can target both the general public as well as the enterprise one as well. for business oriented users you will find applications like Quickoffice and ZumoCast. There are other third party applications installed in the phone which are AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T FamilyMap, AT&T Navigator, Lets Golf 2, Live TV, myAT&T, Qik Lite, and YPmobile. This phone also has some free games such as Electronic Arts, including Tetris HD, the Sims 3 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

The media section of this phone is not so impressive because it has a generic Music app instead of the much more common Google Music app, which syncs with an existing collection, so that is a thing missing from the rest of the android phone collections. There are few widgets in the phone to play some songs and all they are also quite average. The sound quality of the phone is quite good and loud. The video player of this phone is good and plays all the formats.

    Performance

We checked out the call quality of the phone the reception is quite clear. We have tried the volume of the phone in the noisy areas we were easily able to hear the person on the other side of the phone. however I must say that the phone has a very strong vibration effect.

We already spoke about the zippy performance of this phone all credits goes to the 1GHz dual core processor in the phone. the responsiveness of the widgets and also the switching of the home screens were quite fast. Yes some sluggishness was observed initially while we played some games and also when we installed few live wallpapers in the phone. rest everything was ok.

Atrix 2 has a real good rear camera behind and I must say that it captures some neat images. An 8MP mode that produces normal shots and a 6MP mode where the shots are in HD widescreen. The auto focus feature of the camera was quite disappointing. We were not at all impressed with that. Video shooting with this camera was a real experience for me, it produced some good hd recording which I haven’t seen in the recent times. Connected the phone with the TV via the HDMI port and the video output was quite rich. I loved it.

The battery of the phone is excellent. The battery of the phone survived almost one and a half day without any charging.

    Re: Motorola Atrix 2 smartphone

    Conclusion

Coming to the conclusion part of this review. Overall I think the phone is pretty average with many features inherited from the atrix only. Except the camera, screen display and some apps nothing new is there in the phone. However the main thing that will attract the users is the price of the phone. Imagine a 1GHz dual core processor phone available at Rs.22K. wouldn’t you be excited with that offer? A phone in comparison with the Galaxy S2 and Experia S is available in much cheaper rate. So that’s the plus point of the phone. on a scale of 5 I would be giving it a 3.
