Samsung GT-I9023 Nexus S Android Mobile Phone

    Introduction

The GT-I9023 Nexus is one of the latest mobile phones from Samsung. The smartphone has the Android ™ operating system 2.3.3. GingerBread - which is to get independent amount of data stored on the phone and also to speed up the Phone. Other features include HSPA (upload up to 5.76 Mbit / s, download up to 7.2 Mbps), a 5 MP camera with LED-Blitz, 1.1 GB of internal memory for apps, etc. as well as 16 GB internal memory (no memory expansion through MicroSD card is supported). On board still it is not a dual core processor, but a single-core version with 1 GHz. The working memory measure 512, which corresponds to the standard in this league. The upper-class model appears not very exciting visually at first glance. It should stand out the Nexus S with the slightly concave curvature of 10.16 cm (4 inches)-sized displays from the crowd - on second glance, then you see the body shape, and functional or rather brings ergonomic advantages. Unlike other smartphones, the Nexus fits the shape of the face when making calls. From a market price of around 420th - € (without contract, shipping costs vary by provider) the phone comes in black silver or pearl-white color.

    Processing Features

The design of this modern touch-screen phone is very neat and clean. Size and weight are certainly pockets compatible. The surface consists of high-gloss plastic, unfortunately, at the reverse side. Scratches are thus inevitable, if not the proud owner of the same orders a case - then the phone will disappear but it is equally thick and not sits as easily in your pocket. The display is provided with a surface made of scratch resistant glass. With its dimensions of 125 x 63 x 11.5 mm and a weight of 140 grams, it can be otherwise stored without problems. The 4-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels are convincing. The color reproduction seems brilliant, the sharpness is very high. The touch screen is not quite accurate, as sensitive as with many other high-tech smartphone that does not react. The switch from portrait to landscape mode is fast. The battery compartment cover of the Nexus S is made of plastic and can be opened with slight pressure, and sits or closes precisely. It comes with charger, USB cable and a headset. Overall, the Nexus S provide a good average. Overall score: 2-3.

    Business and Data Features

Data Connections - The Samsung only supports HSPA, HSPA +. The Bluetooth transmission leaves here with version 2.1, which seems not very useful as there are many Samsung mobiles equipped with Bluetooth 3.0.

    In detail:

    Bluetooth ® 2.1
    USB Tethering
    WLAN: WLAN 802.11 b / g / n
    Wireless Tethering
    EDGE
    GPRS
    HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps.
    HSUPA up to 5.76 Mbps.
    UMTS

Sound Settings - General: silent mode, vibration, volume, Incoming Calls: ringtone; notifications: notification sound; Feedback: Keypad tones, acoustic selection, Lock screen.

Reception and voice quality - The Nexus S has an excellent reception quality, even if the network coverage is sometimes not the best. The voice playback sounds slightly overcast and damp at medium volume - the entry-level smartphones can already do it better .. the voice quality of the speaker is still satisfactory.

Battery life - The powerful 1500 mAh battery can last for 1.5 days even with intensive use. For less intensive it can possible stay up to 3 days.

Possibilities of finding new Contacts - Add a photo, name: Name prefix, first name, second first name, last name, name suffix, phonetic first name, phonetic second first name, phonetic surname, telephone: Private, Mobile, Business, Other, Email: Private, Professional, Other, Email: Home, Work, Other; Postal address: Private: street, city, state, zip code, business: street, city, state, zip code, Other: street, city, state, zip code, company / organization: Business: Companies, Title, Other: Company, Title; more: Notes, Alias, website, Internet call.

Calendar settings - Day, week, month, date overview; More: New event: What: from (date / time) - To (date / time), time zone, where, description, calendar, Guests: e-mail addresses, Loop: One-time date, daily, Every weekday (Mon-Fri), weekly (eg every Thursday), monthly (eg every 2nd Thursday), Monthly (on 2), annual (eg, on 2 April); reminder 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes , 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 2 days, 1 week, memories to add, calendar: Google Calendar, German holidays, week numbers; Settings: Hide Filed Dates; home zone maintained and reminder settings: Notes, select ring tone, vibration, standard alarm time; Info: Build version 2.3.3.

Voice Recorder - From the factory it does not exist. Remedy can be taken from the Android Market: there is the "Voice Recorder", the "Virtual Player" or the AndRecorder in the free version. The voice recorder is presented very functional in an easy, simple graphics. The acoustic result is average, voices sound slightly tinny. One can use the recording as a ring tone and / or send it.

E-mail functionality - Connection Type: POP3, SMTP and IMAP4. The setting of popular email accounts is done in a few steps. It is also possible to create multiple email accounts. The Nexus S has no problems with download of emails, including all attachments. It also takes little time. About the presentation it can lose nothing and it is very clear and legible. If attachments are slightly larger, the download time is slightly longer. With PDFs or images in different sizes, the Nexus S has no problems viewing.

Internet functionality - Selected web pages are loaded very quickly and require little time - just about using wireless-n, booting just takes a matter of seconds. After just over 3 seconds www.techarena.in was loaded. A Clear View is also presented in very elaborate side of Nexus S. With the 2 finger zoom function, viewing pages on the web is more fun and portals with small font and many a page, arranged on content can be read better. Various contents such as pictures, letters, or small text, can enlarge and read so easily. Bookmarks or saved window are clearly displayed and can be easily retrieved. The settings for page content and security are quite easy to make. We have the impression that the Android browser version 2.3.3 in response to the mobile phone was further optimized and the resources, the smartphone that provides the principle, can use effectively.

PC synchronization - The Nexus S is easily recognized as mass storage. Photos, videos or music can be moved without a hitch (no account). A USB data cable is located in the content of the mobile phone. It is possible to choose whether your mobile phone is only synchronized for charging or can be connected to the Internet via the PC. The Internet synchronization runs very smoothly, if a Google account exists. Meanwhile, however, all users should be aware that you need a Google Account for an Android phone. What does not convinced: The Samsung's PC-/Local-/Offline-Sync-Plattform gravel can not be used here. A tool for calendar and contact synchronization with the PC is not included.

Other features - Auto mode (fast access to important functions in auto mode), Downloads, Google Earth, Google Search, Latitude, Google Maps, Market, Navigation, News & Weather, Places, calculator, voice search, language, tags, talk, Clock, Voice, YouTube. In addition, the Nexus S stores information from so-called smart labels can (Smart Tags) or read out of everyday objects with integrated chips for Near Field Communication (NFC) that are kept - To use this technique, the Nexus S only briefly read the object - for example, price labels, movie posters or T-shirts. The future-proof transmission standard also allows for cashless payments, for example, for tickets and a card and keyless access control.

Business and Data Results - This quad-band smartphone's speed is not to be criticized. In relation to data transmission capabilities of the available standard class is offered, evolutionary or even revolutionary one seeks in vain. HSUPA up to 5.76 Mbps, HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps., WLAN 802.11 b / g / n and Bluetooth 2.1 in this class is obtained. The battery lasts up to 3 days under normal use and for a phone with this equipment is easy to carry. The calendar functions is in accordance with the Google standard. Preseting profiles is not included in the Nexus S, but different sound settings with vibration or silent mode is available. New contacts are quickly created or existing processes. A notebook and voice recorder functions are not integrated, but at the Android Market it can be downloaded for free. An email account is set in a few steps and to retrieve the mail depends on the size. It can create multiple email accounts, which are then sorted. Finding and Opening elaborate Internet sites is not a problem in the Nexus S and takes hardly any time. Even with the use of YouTube the Nexus S shows its speed. To transfer the contact details from the Nexus, it's best to create an account with Google to sync anywhere. We advise you to complete your carrier into an agreement with data plan, as it can be used effectively only with constant Internet connection.

    Handling / Menus

Android GingerBread increases the ease of shaping the look of Samsung GT-I9023 Nexus S mobile phone. The menu icons appear very idea defined and acute. In addition, you can finally and easily copy texts or parts of the text or use quick functions: Pressing longer an item, a context menu is called or it is possible to copy texts, words, etc., like the iPhone 4. Even otherwise there is little criticism. The one-hand operation, is despite somewhat larger sized which is a problem. The Home screen can be custom fit with applications that are then run directly by rapid access to the respective home screen. In special surveys, Google Android can provide a quick overview of typical-size memory, OS version, etc. The keyboard is good especially in landscape mode for longer texts, and can be used as an optional vibration feedback.

Message Handling - To: Subject add attachments: pictures, shoot pictures, record videos, video, record audio, audio, slide show, insert smiley, rejection, all threads, symbols, characters, voice input: function in the experimental stage of Google; settings for language and keyboard: Choose language: Cestina, Danish, German, English (United Kingdom), English (United States), Spanish, (Estados Unidos), French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, etc, My dictionary; Android Keyboard: vibrate when pressed, sound when pressed, pop-up when pressed, Word Correction, Auto upper / lower case, display settings button: Automatic, Always Show, Always Hide,'s proposals, Automatic Completion;, voice input, input language messages such as SMS / MMS or Emails can be drawn easily with the QWERTY keyboard in portrait or landscape mode.

Result - The Nexus S can be quickly and smoothly operated - anyone who has had an Android-based smartphone will be able to use it without any problems. But even newcomers will appreciate the clear menu icons, after a short acclimation period, all control processes go smoothly, and of course CARRIED.

    Google Earth is pre-installed

    Overall Conclusion

Overall, our balance sheet is a nexus S ambivalent. It is now possible with an Android 2.3, an extremely fast Browsing and a very effective and rapid use of all Google features. Operation acts decently, the menus are well designed and modern. The display and touch screen correspond to the high level of class. The operating speed is for a 1 GHz processor Smartphone and high enough only for extremely demanding users, focusing the enormous potential of multimedia. The ergonomic design provides an appropriate concern of the smartphone. The built-in still camera takes good pictures on imaging operation. The music player which offers clear, vibrant sound, regardless of whether one or the included headphone uses the built-in speakers. In addition, the smartphone is fairly easy to handle and not too thick. Unfortunately, these benefits also face various disadvantages. That the complete text from high-gloss plastic, and the rear panel, provides scratch resistance. For data transmission standards, there is no HSPA + and no Bluetooth 3.0. The internal memory is not particularly generous and does not supports external memory expansion. Video recordings can be taken up only in 720 x 480 pixels - not even in 1280 x 720. This, for the performance league is not up to date. Also a voice recorder is missing here, the user must operate from the Android Market offerings. Not least, the price is relatively high for a single-core smartphone that is oriented on the technical equipment of the middle class. Samsung has a whole much better alternatives in the program.
