Tales from Space: About a Blob Review

Everybody is aware that aliens are not welcome on our beautiful blue planet. There are bullies that usually end up in the autopsy. Our neighbors do not count stellar and leave such actions go without punishment, but we will send a division of blobs Wolverines to devour us all. Tales From Space: About a Blob is one of those games for PlayStation Network to put together lot of blast but not covering a hole in the consoles catalog. It is the first game of DrinkBox Studios that is seeking for good debut, surely not the final.

If you imagine even aliens like little gray men or as hairy critters and eat cats, it is high time for you to watch The Blob. These gelatinous masses are capable of consuming everything that come in their path, no matter of the same size or slightly smaller than them, so they grow and continue eating anything. The protagonist of the story falls into the hands of a scientist, but soon begins its escape from the laboratory to other locations to spread terror and absorb what comes in contact with the area. As we see, there are more suspect than a passing resemblance to the classic movie The Blob, in which draws from a humorous perspective and includes many gags hidden in the background, some to scientists, are nods to other games like Super Mario Bros., Pac Man or Punch Out!

Blobs just over peacekeepers have already made their appearance in the world of video games, they obviously think to A Boy but it definitely moves to the dark side of the force with this title. Tales from Space: About a Blob available for download on PSN and combining the platform and the reflection effect allows you to play as an alien who feeds a frank grudge against humans. Do not be a simple matter of experience, break your chains and devour all that you fall under the gelatin to become huge. Blob is a mixture of 60% and 40% puzzles platforms, but the intelligence is not as demanding, or difficult, as the case may be Braid. The control is simple for the most part, and the jumps and other sections are not also too complicated, except when you use a skill that is achieved later. Blob can even grab a ledge and not fall, drain into small spaces, and push some obstacles.

The principle of Tales from Space: About a Blob is simple: you start the adventure while you're just a tiny blob, but you will quickly gain momentum by absorbing the everyday objects around you. Specifically you can eat anything that is smaller than you to grow gradually. At first you'll have to settle for meals made from pins or screws, but you'll soon present a real threat to mankind ... In the manner of a Katamari, it is really fun to grow bigger and change gradually scale. The blob is not content to digest the objects or creatures that ingest it can also spit out its enemies to explode or to activate mechanisms. Some chapters require little skill to avoid the dangers; you cannot move very far in the levels without scratching your head. The title is full of puzzles, in fact more or less eccentric who will ask you to make good use of the capabilities of the blob. The latter is a glutton and a compulsive eater, but it also has two other strings to its bow.

As the objects are not concealed and can be collected with simple walk, there are different hazards for the stage that will threat your health. There are some launchers, lasers, fire, toxic water, snacks and other surfaces that are painful for Blob and will drop some of the items that were collected in advance, but with a button you can recover those losses back to us, so that this sense, the only real danger is for vitality. Eaten objects also can serve as projectiles, to spit and destroy enemies, or enable remote-and back buttons can be easily retrieved.

The capability of shooting mechanics food is to beat some bosses, who threw bombs with timer. These battles are best for testing our own skills and strategy coordination. You have to learn enough their movements to know when to attack and when to flee, but will inevitably die a few times, especially with the final boss, who can rile. The generous save points appears as the punishment that keeps repeating many sections of the same level. Puzzles are well thought of increasing difficulty which may take several minutes until we found the solution, and either breaks the monotony that can offer the rest of the game. An example could be turning tubes and place them in a certain way to facilitate spitting an object to reach an unreachable switch or throw the food to create weight and tilt rockers.

The game can be completed without problems and alone too but it seems that there won’t be a multiplayer component. Blob can even enjoy the puzzles with two of these curious creatures. Take a different approach to the puzzles, which become easier, so it's a good idea to replay the whole game. Change the gameplay, because the blobs interact with each other-one can climb over the other and requires good coordination, as opposed to Sonic and Tails, for example, can not be in the same place simultaneously. Moreover, as in LittleBigPlanet, both players are in the same screen, because going out starts a timer that will kill one of the Blobs. Throughout your adventure, you put two hands on skills that will spice up the puzzles and seriously phases of platforms: a capacity of magnetism and another related to electricity. The first allows you to attract or repel metallic elements. You'll be prompted to move objects to the needs of a mechanism or climb an iron wall. The second skill is used to store electrical energy to power machines.

Re: Tales from Space: About a Blob Review

One of the most striking stuff of this game is its reminiscent of retro movies or animated shorts from Warner Bros. There are effects in the context of the screen to simulate an old TV tube and also to add soil. The color that blends muted tones and shrill stridency give a peculiar aspect along with the stage design, which seems drawn from a chapter of Marvin the Martian. There is much variety and it is difficult to find two nearly identical ornaments that this is a game and not a great picture. You been good to the scale of the scenario about Blob, which will change according to the chapter.

In addition, the physics are good and appropriate with the size of objects although there is no secret technically. Our Blob is well animated, its surface adapts to the ground and twisted with the actions, and show more expressiveness than expected for a being that has no limbs. Perhaps the sound effect is the weakest aspect of a Blob but not bad. Though there are no voices, it does not matter because the story is told through news footage and newspaper, as all the menus, which need no further explanation, but the sound effects are much unnoticed. The soundtrack is recurring and there is not much difference between the limited number of subjects. In short, look to improve but that in the bad, not serious.

Besides the story mode and extras menu to check some scenes between unlocked chapters, we have the intuition that this is not the last time we see a blob on the PlayStation Network. Right from the start there is the possibility of going to the Store, and although there is more content available or announced, it seems likely to see new chapters if the game is successful. Tales from Space: About a Blob is not game with very difficult access. Indeed, at any time, a second player can plug in the controller and come join the party for your convenience. Ultimately, this adventure is quite refreshing and alien should easily seduce fans of platforms and reflection.

    Conclusions:

While the title had not done much before its release, one must admit that Tales from Space: About a Blob itself is one of the pleasant surprises of the PSN early this year. This title offers few hours of direct fun that is always welcome to switch between large and noisy items to last month's release. Although it lacks some ambition to be an instant classic, but this kind of games are grateful because of their lack of complexity. The replay value is in the cooperative mode, and if you like to overcome challenges, this network is in ratings. Funny and smart, combining the ideal platform for reflection, this downloadable title will book a refreshing adventure.
