Dell Vostro Core 2 Solo V13 Review

Dell has launched some time ago a very fine and powerful computer, the Adamo, but also extremely expensive. For reasons I do not know, Dell is selling a clone of the Adamo for a price lower than that of the tier of Adamo! The hull is almost the same (with the hinge that differentiates it from conventional phones), the screen is the same 13.3-inch WXGA LED. Worse: Vostro V13 is lighter than the 300g Adamo, although a little thicker.

Dell Vostro V13 Features :
  • Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 clocked at 1.40 GHz
  • 2 GB DDR3 SRAM ( 1066 MHz)
  • Intel GMA 4500MHD
  • 320GB Serial ATA HDD 7,200 rpm
  • Screen 13.3 " HDF -backlit LED with a resolution in 1366 × 768.

First Impressions

Coming directly from the family Adamo , Vostro V13 has inherited the beauty and quality workmanship of its predecessors. Like other machines Adamo , the special design of the Vostro V13 resides in the fact that loads a screen rather unusual hinge protruding hindquarters of the machine.

Add to that a stylish brushed aluminum shell, and you get a little Vostro V13 that will perfectly meet your expectations. And Dell has not done things by half since it also offers a superb keyboard, very elegant, and a mouse pad rather successful. In summary this new Dell Vostro V13 is a nice laptop that will appeal to business -oriented undoubtedly a pack of people.

Minimalist, an adjective that would describe exactly what the V13 seen few solutions proposed for the devices. In fact, do not expect too much from this side, the V13 shipped only USB 2.0 and e-SATA port. If you were hoping to plug your pretty screen 24 '' Full HD, it will do so very old- school, namely through the exit D -Sub. Fortunately, Dell was still thought to incorporate two slots for SD cards, as well as Express shipping Card/34 on the side of the machine but it will be pretty near everything.

You looking for a machine to take advantage of HD video on the go? Well, Dell has had the good idea to screen Non- Glossy 13.3 inches with a resolution 1366 x 768.

Using the Daily

Unfortunately, in Japan it is only available with a Celeron 743 or Core 2 Solo SU3500; Vostro V13 is not nearly as powerful as the series ended Adamo ... this concerns especially Japan. The good news in all this is that this laptop will do just what he is supposed to do, and that's all we ask!

Let's put things in context. It is clear that a good Core 2 Duo S7300, the same as the U.S. version of the V13 would have been nicer. However , the one we have in our hands has never pretended to compete with the big machines , but rather to attract Japanese Salary -Man , where a single Core 2 Solo SU3500 on a hard drive 7200rpm ample enough to handle navigation on the net, sending emails , or for a basic use of Office , or even Photoshop.

And if you’ve always wanted to do more than sending mail, namely watch HD video, or manage Hulu video as you go, do not worry, the V13 and its Core 2 Solo should not see the problem. As far as 3D games, saying that Intel GMA 4500MHD do not provide the power needed to run a big 3D game , but hey, that would be crazy enough to run such a game on a slim laptop , and , even with a Core 2 Duo.

In short, the Vostro PC V13 is far from an arrow, but it will remain a beautiful machine -oriented business, solid, with a nice aluminum case, and a thickness of only 19.7mm. In my case , the Vostro has everything you need , while remaining class , lightweight , and professional ... For cons , like many portable machines , there is one little drawback from the battery . It is unfortunately not interchangeable, and in case of glitches, it will go through the box from Dell customer service. You can always dare to dismantle the rear end of the machine, but it is likely to hurt the cash ... It's just bad...

Connectivity

Port development, in our opinion, was perfectly successful, with audio ports for headphones placed on the front, the card readers on the side, and all other connections to the rear. Maybe a bit less convenient to add and remove devices, but it leaves your work area is less crowded.

The Ethernet network connection (RJ45), also on the back of the machine supports standard Gigabit and therefore suitable for corporate networks faster and with an internal modem ADSL.

Screen

The Dell Vostro V13 'm tendency screens 16:9 with a resolution of 1366 x 768. It is a good thing for games and film, but for a laptop that is supposed pro scroller all day on documents is not necessarily ideal.

Keyboard

The Vostro keyboard V13 takes the whole width; the keys are 19mm (with 16mm to hit). The provision did nothing surprising; System functions can change easily with the FN key combinations. The arrow keys are a pleasure.

The pressure is fine but said the keys, the return is intense and the noise impact clear and discreet. Some keys are a bit more noise than others, in short, RAS.

Touchpad

The touchpad has a surface with a rapid return to the screen that slides out and well. The double click is a little hard. The area supports multitouch.

Performance

Do not really surprising, since the processor used in the V13 (Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500) is not exactly a powerhouse, but the V13 offers limited performance. You get more power than a netbook, but less than a laptop public an equivalent price. However, this performance is sufficient to make Web browsing and office.

A metal box and a surprisingly slim, it is paid. Besides, the real top model of Dell, Adamo, sells for $ 2,260 to $ 3,000 for a similar design, but with more interesting internal features. We cannot honestly expect miracles from V13. Moreover, the V13 offers a value greater than the frankly Adamo.

Unfortunately, in addition to its low power, which is forgivable, its autonomy is limited to a mere three hours, which is more damage. For a computer with mobile computing is the great strength is a shame. Because of this autonomy that I reduced the score of the V13 3.5 stars and not 4 stars.

For the curious, the Dell Vostro V13 gets a score of 1725 in PC Mark Vantage benchmark. As a guide, a netbook gets through about 1200 - 1300 and Asus laptop U30Jc recently tested by Tune had received 5411.

The Dell Vostro V13 actually draws heavily on the latter, with its hinge screen prognathous atypical and aluminum hull, although only partially on this new model. The similarities do not end there because these ultra - portable revolve around both a screen WXGA backlit LED 13.3- inch. The Vostro is paying the luxury of being lighter than Adamo since it measures 16.5 to 19.7 mm thick 1.5 kg, as against 16 mm and 1.8 kg.

One finds also the eternal platform of ultra-low voltage Intel recurring on these computers. Depending on the configuration chosen, customizable as usual at the Texan, it has a single processor heart Celeron 743 ( 1.2GHz and 1MB cache ), Core 2 Solo SU3500 (1.4 GHz and 3 MB ) Or double heart SU7300 Core 2 Duo (1.3 GHz and 3 MB ) , GMA 4500MHD graphics chip that supports hardware acceleration for decoding high definition video up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM and hard drive 250 to 500 GB with optional hardware encryption. Bluetooth, Wi- Fi N, a Gigabit Ethernet port , two USB ports including a combo eSATA and audio outputs and video signals provide for their connectivity.

Conclusion

Despite a rather incomprehensible choice in terms of processor for this laptop which should have had him hold a Core 2 Duo, and despite a battery set , it must recognize that the V13 is an attractive machine to complete his equipment office .

In fact, I turn on a Vaio G2, in a Windows Server, Exchange and Office, and I must admit that this Vostro V13 running as well as my G2 Core 2 Duo (Clocked at 1.2GHz). In addition to this, you really have the feeling of having a solid machine, and very classy. As proof, in writing this test, I took the opportunity to invest in a V13 Vostro with Core 2 Solo for only 280 dollars which replaces the old Lenovo 3000 N100 Core Duo 1.66GHz with my wife.
