    Alien Breed: Impact (PC)

    Introduction:

Mainly known for their prolific serial Worms , developers Team 17 had also been a name in the middle of the action almost twenty years ago with Alien Breed , a title largely inspired Alien movies (and play Alien Syndrome ) that put us against a threat Outer terrorists in empty space. Determined to give a face-lift to the old series, the British studio out Alien Breed: Trends in late 2009 on Xbox 360 with rather mixed success with critics and gamers. Undeterred by this setback, Team 17 attacks today on PC and PS3 with a port editing and renamed Alien Breed: Impact of the reboot. This time, it's good.

    About the Game:

Alien Breed Impact is an action game where the player controls a Marine who is facing a horde of aliens in the distant future. The adventure can be done solo or coop. Alien Breed Impact is an explosive science narrative arcade-shooter video game that resurrects a lot admired franchise with an epic story, swarms of extremely intellectual alien enemies, high-impact weaponry, highly meticulous and rich environments; everything implemented with excellent technology in a state-of-the-art gaming skill. In addition to the breathtaking single-player operation mode, the game as well offers a relentless, action-packed, online two-player co-operative encounter mode.

    Game Features:

    • Alien Breed is back! - An action-packed mix of arcade-shooter, survival-horror and tactical weapons upgrades and customisation.
    • Epic single-player story mode - The single-player campaign mode that follows the narrative of the game through five huge and challenging environments.
    • Single-player free-play mode - A single-player challenge mode – beat your high score on a previously completed campaign mission.
    • Two-player co-operative play mode - Work together to defeat the alien horde across three specifically customised maps.
    • Additional Steam online features - Quick Match, Create Game, Friends Lists, Voice Chat, Leader-boards and Co-operative Achievements.
    • FREE TRIAL - The "Prologue" sample section – a specifically designed introduction to the game; play in either single-player or two-player online co-operative mode.
    • NEW – Upgrades shop - Search fallen comrades and lockers to accumulate cash, and then tactically spend it on weapons/kit upgrades in the shop.
    • NEW - Enemies - Re-imagined and improved Alien Breed enemies.

More or less devoid of real scenario (we will still be explained through the cut-scenes the most vile of History), Alien Breed: Impact plunges us immediately into the action commands Conrad, an engineer space a bit bothered by the army of aliens who come swarming to invite themselves in the gigantic spaceship where he officiated quietly until then. Armed with an old nail gun and an assault rifle (rapidly and a large arsenal of deadly toys), the man must make his way through countless corridors to avoid finishing in calcined a huge explosion in the middle of nowhere and eventually stop the flow of dirty creatures crawling.

To do this, we must follow the instructions of one of our colleagues remained safe as a coward and dirty play of the mouse (or the analog stick) to knock out anything that passes. Finally it is the theory. In practice, we will mostly our time to activate, repair, maintain and clean a bunch of pseudo-complex mechanisms gun a few handfuls of enemies to pass. It must be said that 'Alien Breed: Impact serious lack of pace during the first three levels (six total) and the action is rather rare as it struggles to run about on board a vessel where nothing works properly. Never expect to multiply the return trips in maze-levels because the door to open for advance explode before you can reach it, because the ventilation system unravel at the last moment because it will go activate a switch to the other end of the vessel to open the path because the elevator will break down, etc., etc.. It's beautiful future.

But the problems of Alien Breed: Impact is not limited to, unfortunately, not a level designer frustrating and repetitive objectives. The view mid-air mid-isometric chosen by Team 17 will be the primary source of our troubles with a huge blind spot that will require constant change of perspective to avoid getting caught in the dark by malevolent aliens. The problem is that the rotation of the camera is rather problematic since it will be asked to touch the edge of the screen when playing with the mouse (to target practice), or hammering the bumpers on the controller (practice to reach the trigger used to pull).

We also noted a serious lack of variety in the situations and threats faced with gameplay action which just really fly until the very last level, unfortunately marred by a final particular mold. Completed in just five hours (typically within 30 minutes and one hour of play per level) solo, Alien Breed: Impact commits an irreparable mistake and more with its cooperative multiplayer particularly disappointing.

Not playable locally, limited to three maps disposable separated from the countryside and completely deserted by the players in line because of a lobby archaic, it does not really want to extend the gaming experience too few remain rare big sticks nicely old-school, especially a scene class background space star, a successful atmosphere through a graphical portion control and the return of weapons shops (the famous bonus which apparently is enough to justify the re-baptism game for the Xbox 360 version) of Alien Breed: Tower Assault . At 15 €, it is still a bit expensive disappointment.

    Re: Alien Breed: Impact (PC)

    Conclusion:

Renamed and reworked since its release on Xbox 360 last year, reboot the series Alien Breed fails to convince us more in 2010 with a PC port is no shortage of technical skills but misses the boat for almost all other levels. Disguised a level design goals and uninspired incredibly repetitive, Alien Breed: Impact also behind his strange camera like a gigantic ball over his six levels that can be completed in just over five hours. The height of deception is finally achieved with the cooperative multiplayer mode, simply missed throughout. Team 17 was damn interest in reviewing his copy in detail before continuing this episodic trilogy which starts on very fragile foundations.

    Pros:
    • Rather nice
    • Atmosphere
    • Kill aliens, it's always fun

    Cons:
    • Camera confusing
    • Lack of variety
    • Short
    • Final well crap
    • Coop's very disappointing
