Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy Edition 2GB

    Introduction and Installation

Your data may worth of some thing that can not explain more than any amount. In short sensitive data that in the eyes of its owner are priceless, well almost. The protection is important especially if you travel a lot and you do not want to be burdened. What better time than USB 2.0 storage media practice is almost universal encryption? A major development project a customer database IDs and passwords, set custom application etc..

Beyond its aesthetic rather successful design to withstand shocks, it can fall also it is waterproof up to 1.30 meters and this DataTraveler is really VAULT very easy to use.

The installation process also requires no implementation of a special program for managing the media. Simply just insert the key into a USB 2.0 port on your computer, then first mounts volume on the desktop.

Appointed DTVP, abbreviation of the name extending this hardware partition (indelible) contains the instructions and applications suitable for Mac and PC. Note that the PC has a launcher away for use with a Mac.

Once the volume is opened it remains only to double click from the software. Note that it is not necessary to drag into the Applications folder on the computer. Instead the application will not work in this configuration.

    Key and protection
Once the software is launched DTVP you can create a password. It must contain preferably a string of alphanumeric characters (6 minimum) and it is possible to add special characters (eg ABC Bob411 or $ ). More mode password is elaborate and complex and it is difficult to decipher. It is preferable once your password has been set to write down or store it in a safe place in the absence of the store. However, if you prefer to create a simple password easy to remember with technical benchmarks memo is also a solution. It must be composed of numbers and letters.

The process of creating a password is divided into four stages. Choice of language.

Then we must set the password. Important, it must consist of at least 6 letters and numbers, and include several types of characters.

Note that it is impossible to use the copy / paste the clipboard. An additional way to protect the password itself. The "password" set, the user can record data directly in an index of software that would recover the password in case of doubt.

You can also set Hint question in case you lost password

After setting the password, the key DTVP formats.

The process of initializing your password completed, the product behaves like a standard USB key with the exception that each insertion into the USB port, and it is the whole point. The volume is accessible after validating the password. If you forget or doubt the index is likely to remind the user the correct content of the word magic.

In case you forgot the password user can enter and validate up to ten times (default) password. After these the key will be automatically formatted and overwritten data.

If the initiative is rather welcome hardware encryption more effective, i would liked to have an option of sending the password via email in case of loss of memory, it happens sometimes. The data will be stored on the media will be vital but if the user for a reason "x" does not have copies on site or elsewhere, the risk of loss or deletion are likely if not inexorable. Then have an email containing the password would be saving an additional solution to ensure the contents of the volume to its owner.

As for performance the key provides speeds average reading of around 27 MB / s files between 2 MB and 10, and about 11 MB / s write. This is not bad for a USB device of this type.

I have compared USB 2.0 Cruzer 16GB SanDisk brand with it.The two keys display speeds average reading very similar. The product is proving very successful and stands out competition with other other brand with shock resistance and sealing ,water proof up to 1.30 meter according to the manufacturer.

It has voluntarily dropped the height of a man on the floor and tiles. Just a few small marks on and then left to float about half an hour in a sink and key remains sealed. good

Re: Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy Edition 2GB

    Conclusion :

Compared to similar storage solutions or even to hard drives of 120 GB or 160, including even the SDS whose prices continue to decline, the DataTravelerVAULT 2GB appear expensive in proportion to its modest capacity of 2GB and more even if it is his choice on the 32 GB version . What thrilled when we know we can buy hard drives like the LaCie SAFE Mobile Hard Drive with same price that has a protection system by fingerprint recognition.

Certainly the 256 bit AES encryption is a solution far more secure even here it is material But this does not justify such a tariff However in context and what this key is intended not so much finally paid especially when it comes to protecting personal data which often are priceless.Still, appreciated it character submarine its ease of use and robust crash proof
