Yamaha RX-V665 A/V Receiver with HDMI and Bluetooth

    Introduction

Yamaha’s latest entry-level receiver the RX-V665 with 7.2 channel digital home theater receiver is loaded with features and excellent performance. In addition to delivering great sound, it minimizes the cable clutter going to your HDTV.It supports HD audio and video featuring HD audio encoding and 1080p HDMI, with four inputs and one output with video upscaling as well as other features such as Digital ToP-ART, YPAO, Cinema DSP 3D and custom installation features. However the one thing that does leave us a bit concerned is weight.

The fact that this receiver is rated to produce 90 watts per channel into seven channels while weighing in at just 18.7 pounds leads us to wonder about the robustness of its power supply. It has a great history with their A/V receiver product line, with many excellent products in the mid- to entry-level range. The manufacturer included four HDMI inputs, video scaling, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding and support for a second zone, for instance, while axing S-video input and outputs.

The RX-V665 has the typical boxy look of an AV receiver, but is a little shorter than most with a 364mm depth. While working as a control hub, Yamaha RX-V665 has 4 HDMI-HDCP inputs, 2 sets of HD capable component inputs, and 4 video inputs with S-Video and composite jacks. It is equipped with 1080p compatible HDMI inputs and all the necessary surround sound decoders including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and also up scaling analogue video to 1080p.You can enjoy sound in a separate room because the RX-V665 provides Zone 2 audio output.

Furthermore, Zone 2 power amplifier assignability and speaker terminals mean that Zone 2 can be fully independent with its own 2-channel power, while you still enjoy 5-channel sound in the main room. Its LCD display is a bluish white, instead of the orange of previous years', which we preferred as we found a little easier to read from far away.here are dedicated inputs for those accessories, too. You can listen to XM radio over 150 digital channels.Pure Direct is a special receiver mode that causes the signal to bypass all but the most basic audio circuitry, and even turns off the display to prevent any chance of noise interference. It provides the purest possible high-fidelity sound from all sources including HDMI inputs.

Re: Yamaha RX-V665 A/V Receiver with HDMI and Bluetooth

    Audio

Yamaha RX-V665 has two component video inputs and one component video output, two optical digital audio inputs, and two coaxial digital audio inputs. With Dolby Digital Plus, you get even higher-quality audio, more channels, and greater flexibility. It also has two analog A/V inputs and one A/V output, two analog audio inputs and one analog audio output and an eight-channel analog audio input for connecting surround-sound sources such as a DVD-Audio player or a home-theater PC.You can enjoy sound in a separate room because the RX-V665 provides Zone 2 audio output.Zone 2 power amplifier assignability and speaker terminals mean that Zone 2 can be fully independent with its own 2-channel power, while you still enjoy 5-channel sound in the main room.Listening to CDs confirmed our hunches about the RX-V665's sound. RX-V665 has front-panel A/V inputs, which are extremely useful for making temporary connections to devices such as camcorders or MP3 players but there are no digital audio or video inputs on the front panel.

    Video

The RX-V665 is capable of video up-conversion through the HDMI output. This is a function that converts analog signals from composite, or component terminals to output from higher quality HDMI digital video. This ensures the highest possible picture quality from the AV receiver to a monitor or TV via a single cable. The HDMI 1.3a interface upgrades the transmission of standard, enhanced, and high-definition video signals via HDMI for higher-than-ever quality through a single cable. With two HDMI input terminals and one HDMI output, you can connect a variety of high-definition sources such as Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD players and switch easily among them. Also, video input signals are deinterlaced from 480i and can be upscaled to 1080p via the HDMI output. The RX-V665 also accommodates 120Hz/24Hz Refresh Rates and up to 36-bit Deep Color as well.

    HDMI

The RX-V665 boasts four 1.3a HDMI inputs, but only one HDMI output. The HDMI interface upgrades the transmission of standard, enhanced, and high-definition video signals via HDMI for higher-than-ever quality through a single cable.Having a single HDMI output, while a common limitation among receivers in this price range, is a problem when your home theater has both a high-definition television and a video projector. It has HDMI Input on the front of the unit for things like HD Camcorders. While the rest of the connectivity is in line with comparable models, it's not nearly as flexible as some others, as the RX-V665 lacks the capability to assign audio inputs to any video input you'd like.

While there are two component video inputs and two optical-digital-audio inputs, it's not possible to use two component video sources accompanied with optical-digital audio, because one of the component video inputs is permanently assigned to a coaxial-digital-audio input.

Re: Yamaha RX-V665 A/V Receiver with HDMI and Bluetooth

The Yamaha RX-V665 is definitely going on list of recommended receivers for people asking about an entry-level system. With the RX-V665, Yamaha has incorporated high end features in a reasonably priced at $499.95 home theater receiver, such as two HDMI video inputs, HDMI video and audio switching with analog-to-HDMI video conversion with 1080p upscaling, advanced HDMI audio capabilities, iPOD and Bluetooth compatibility, and XM and Sirius satellite radio. With a set of efficient speakers and a medium to small room, the RX-V665 will not disappoint.

    Pros:-
    • Excellent price/performance ratio
    • 4 HDMI Inputs
    • Easy to Setup
    • Informative front-panel display
    • Automatic Speaker Calibration
    • Lots of nice features
    • Front-panel buttons for all major features
    • Great Sound
    • HDMI will carry sound and video

The preset Audio settings all seem to force to 7 Channel, even if it is 2 channel audio, there may be a way to change this.We can accept most of the trade-offs that were made to hit this price point, and we recognize that the difficulty of including a second HDMI output. Not full-bandwidth rated on power. Still cranks out some serious sound, but could be a little louder.

    Cons :-

    • No front-panel digital-audio input
    • Remote stinks
    • No video in second zone
    • Lack of Analog Video inputs
    • No phono input
    • Can't customize audio and video inputs
    • Doesn't connect to network audio sources
