    Sony DCR-DVD610 DVD Camcorder

The Sony DCR-DVD610 is an entry-level, standard-definition DVD camcorder aimed at the 'casual' demographic. The DCR-DVD610 uses simple controls and powerful features that make it easy to shoot and share video. Compose your shots on the 2.7-inch wide1 (16:9) touch-panel LCD display, then close in on the action using the powerful 40x optical/2000x digital zoom. It is very light weight and has a strap to go over your hand for easy carry and use. It also has the capability of taking photos with the switch of a button. There is also a feature of night shot that allows shots to be taken at night. Also there is a great zoom feature. This camera is great for vacations because its so light weight and the battery can hold 120 minutes of charge.

Shooting and sharing video is easy with the DCR-DVD610 Handycam camcorder. Compose your shots on the 2.7" widescreen touch panel LCD display, then close in on the action using the powerful 40x optical/2000x digital zoom. Gain even more control over your images with Super Steady Shot image stabilization, as well as Super NightShot Plus technology for excellent quality in low light. The main advantage offered by DVD camcorders is that you can pop your recordings straight into a DVD player without mucking around with computers or cables first. This makes them ideal for casual shooters and older or younger users who might not feel comfortable with the editing process.

Unfortunately, the Sony DCR-DVD610 leaves a lot to be desired in other areas apart from the affordable price, convenience is one of its few strengths. It comes with Carl Zeiss lenses which is an Advanced German lens technology that enables capturing images with professional clarity, quality and accuracy constraints, avoiding reflections through increased entry of light. For superior shooting control at your fingertips, its 2.7-inch Touch Panel LCD gives you direct access to the camcorder?s popular features. Press the Easy Handycam Button to enlarge display icons for greater shooting convenience and control.

In ditching the DVD810's 8GB of internal flash memory, the DCR-DVD610 also suffers from cheaper components. Its smaller 1/8in CCD sensor has an effective pixel count of just 800k. Subsequently, its image capabilities are decidedly under par, especially when it comes to still pictures. It also lacks an active interface accessory shoe, and has an inferior 2ch inbuilt microphone. On the plus side, the DCR-DVD610 does benefit from a powerful 45x optical zoom, which is bound to frequently come in handy. With support of a wide range of DVD disc formats including DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL, you can be sure that it will fit your needs.

Using DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) disc, you can record up to 55 minutes on a single side of the disc. Featuring unique Sony technologies such as Super SteadyShot image stabilization and the Super NightShot plus full-colour infrared system, the DCR-DVD610 offers outstanding imaging clarity.

The optical zoom helps to bring the action close up from far away. In addition, Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zoom. Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses are designed specifically for compact camcorders, and utilize precision ground optics to maintain the sharpness and contrast found with larger lenses. The camera's electronic stabiliser does a good job of recording smooth, shake-free video, though you'll naturally need a tripod when using the higher zoom magnifications.

Rather coolly, Sony has seen fit to include a traditional viewfinder on this model, which allows you to close the 2.7in LCD display and save on batteries. The Super NightShot Plus function allows you to record in complete darkness in the most environments, so you capture images that sometimes your eyes are able to see. Captures monochrome images with up to 9 meters.

With support of a wide range of DVD disc formats including DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL, you can be sure that it will fit your needs. Using DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) disc, you can record up to 55 minutes on a single side of the disc. Featuring unique Sony technologies such as Super SteadyShot image stabilization and the Super NightShot plus full-colour infrared system, the DCR-DVD610 offers outstanding imaging clarity.Like its DVD810 sibling, the DVD610 includes a memory card slot for Sony's proprietary Memory Stick format. A 4GB Memory Stick can store 58 minutes of video at the highest quality setting. Conveniently, you can also transfer footage from Memory Stick directly to DVD in-camera.

The DVD-R format can record only once requires finalizing the disc to watch. Have a DVD-RW allows you to record, edit and rewrite, and requiring completion unfinalizing.InfoLITHIUM Batteries DVD Handycam line comes equipped with Stamina, internal circuit which gives them longer due to low energy consumption. These batteries can be recharged at any level of ability, without developing memory effect, and indicate the time in minutes of load available for recording or playback. I would reccomend buying an extra battery as the one that comes with it does not last very long, but it is well worth the money. This camera is great for vacations because its so light weight and the battery can hold 120 minutes of charge.

    Re: Sony DCR-DVD610 DVD Camcorder

This handycam is pretty good quality. It feels as though it is created with quality materials and of course has a great name behind it.There is a format for fireworks that I used at Epcot that came out just great. Pictures that I took inside I was very happy with and are much better then the old VHS. I would advise buying a larger battery as well as the small sony battery charger. The only thing I was not to crazy about was the location of the zoom control. I found myself accidently using the zoom while holding the camera. All in all I would recommend this product to anyone needing a camcorder.Other than that, the camera looks awesome!
