    Installation and Speed

AirPort Utility will always guide the user to set the capsule so that it meets as possible to their needs. During this phase the guest is offered only when Time Capsule is used in router mode. Once configured the terminal restarts and you can move on.

Time Capsule can be detected on a Windows PC only after runing the installation CD .For Apple computers, this is not necessary if the AirPort Utility is present.

When the configuration program is started the dual signal is enabled by default. Time Capsule automatically selects the radio channels which are not used by others. Of course, it is possible to switch to manual and choose yourself. the Time Capsule already found the installation start. The guest you can share your Wi-Fi with proper security.

The first it asks for a name and password for Time Capsule, set a password that people need in order to access the built in hard drive as external / printer. Also you can get the host network on or off.

    Now wizard windows shows question:

    New wireless network create
    The current wireless network expansion,
    Wireless functionality off,
    Connect to a wireless network.

For those who prefer not to use the wizard there is the manual configuration. In this configuration you can even a syslog server command. This sends the Time Capsule all logs to a syslog server in your network. Also you can configure SNMP.

    Performance

Time Capsule creates a secondary network with a different IP address.Concerning the scope of the signal, we found several times that he was a little bit stronger with the new capsule. To test the speed of the wireless network and the built-gigabit switch, we have write 7.86 GB for a total of 25 files to the hard disk built. These files come from a Raid-1 configuration 500 GB disks, which are connected via FireWire 800 to the iMac.It took 28 seconds to recover an archive of 300 MB on 2G Time Capsule, as against about 3 minutes on the old model.

the terminal does not have the feature that allows AirTunes to play music from iTunes. It is unfortunate that we finally can not connect directly to a computer via the USB port. We would finally like Apple could use Capsule as the iTunes server.

    Re: Apple Time Capsule 1TB

    Conclusion

In everyday life Time Capsule is a very useful one. This unit is best those who do not want to interfere with a dedicated server and have fairly basic needs (sharing files, backup ...). Its combination with other Apple technologies, including Time Machine and MobileMe make it really interesting. It is true saying that the prices for this router is quite high , but the Time Capsule is just to be more than a router . The wireless network is very stable, fast and easy to set up. The gigabit switch built merely a bit disappointing. With a maximum of 23MB / s is clearly not the fastest on the market.

    Plus Points
    • easy to set up
    • Stable
    • Wireless network is fast
    • Silent and energy aware
    • The dual band
    • Server file sharing
    • Design discreet

    Downsides

    • Gigabit switch can be built faster
    • cost
    • Apple could push the integration further
    • No off button
