    MSI GX400 Gaming Laptops

Gaming notebooks are considered to be heavy, unwieldy and are usually not intended for mobile use. The class of notebooks with dedicated graphics is all one or two classes higher than the MSI GX400, which with its 14.1-inch screen. Even the price is 835 euros for a very attractive notebook for gamers.

    • Technology: Hardware equipment of the "Great".
    • Modes: The agony of choice.
    • Additional buttons, keyboard and touchpad.
    • Battery life and volume: Good versus evil.
    • Conclusion: A rarity, with a few quirks.

Technology: Hardware equipment of the "Great"

The significantly larger competitors knows the MSI GX400 for its good hardware to convince. For the required CPU performance, an Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 with two gigahertz. This is one of the default clock frequency and is not the fastest processors, but thanks to the turbo button with up to 2.3 gigahertz. The interior is marked by the loosening three screws very easy to reach.

You will get next to the CPU and the GPU the two RAM slots occupied to face. MSI occupied both slots with a total of four gigabytes of DDR2 memory. Directly in the next slot there is Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT. This has its own 256 megabytes of RAM and fits very well with the 14.1 inch small screen and its resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels. Due to its strong reflection of the screen it is already in indirect sunlight and does not adversely affect the reading noted. The games and programs are on a 320GB generously sized hard drive. This can be explained by the detachment of two screws that needs to pull. Unfortunately, the mechanism is very stiff.

In terms of connections the MSI GX400 notebook is not as fast a little before: Two USB ports, a combo USB/eSata-, a LAN port and an HDMI output can be found on the housing. Only one firewire port is missing. A DVD burner is just like an ExpressCard slot 54 and an integrated card reader. The power connector on the back is a bit poorly positioned and prevented, depending on how the cable is laid, the reinitialized a LAN cable and difficult to use the USB port. The operating system used is Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

    Modes: The agony of choice

We have already mentioned about turbo button, but the MSI GX400 is like the big brothers of 17-inch screen with a large number of different modes of operation. Altogether there are seven addition number that can change the processor clock. But already in presentation mode, the setting is too dark and it must be adjusted manually.

    Additional buttons, keyboard and touchpad

However, MSI has the extra buttons which are not waived. The GX400 offers only three pieces: the webcam, wireless connections and a freely assignable key. The keyboard layout differs only in one place by the standard. The space has been reduced. When writing this circumstance is forgotten after a few minutes. But especially in the initial position of the typical gamer, with the fingers on the "W", "A", "S", "D" the space bar is too short and it is inevitably in hectic situations. Moreover, the right side of the keyboard are at great pressure.

The touchpad is integrated directly into the palm rest and integrated with slightly off. The distinction is not as seamless and usually clearly separated. However, this is only in the first few minutes as you like.

The battery life in the office is 125 minutes which is acceptable. However, without power it get empty with the help of six-cell battery in just 50 minutes. Even with the volume, the MSI GX400 has two sides. In idle the fan is very subtle. Under load, however, he turns more and more to make up to a high noise level of 46.0 db.

    Conclusion:

Due to its comparatively small 14.1-inch displays the MSI GX400 with a price of 835 euros which is almost incomparable. Otherwise, there is hardly anything to suspend your notebook. The speed of the laptop must be far behind, its bigger rivals are 15 and 17-inch. The volume under load operation as well as on the short battery life while playing is negative. In order to start immediately, the game "Tomb Raider Under World" should be included.
