Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Mini Notebook

The netBook are undoubtedly become a particularly promising. That's probably why many manufacturers are embarking on an adventure to fill the market with products sometimes not quite up to the specialists of the genre. Fujitsu-Siemens is a part of these manufacturers? Answer to follow ...

Overview

Declined only in the version we used a copy of the test (the hard disk can vary from 60 to 120 GB), the Amilo Mini from Fujitsu-Siemens is two-tone black on the edge of the screen on the side and the rear of the machine and on the speakers, also white, that is mainly on the keyboard. Rather lightweight (1.10 kg on the scale), it is made of solid plastic and a bit thick.

What equipment?

The Intel Atom N270 and the couple 945GSE/950GMA Intel are once again involved in this Amili Mino Nothing surprising there. At RAM, we are entitled to a slide of a gigabyte. The Wi-Fi chip delivered in this NETBOOK that does 802.11g. Damage. Finally, the storage medium, it is also a little back against some of its competitors, since the hard disk with a capacity of 60 GB, with 2 MB buffer and spun at 4200 rpm, n ' is not what is the best in the area.

The Amilo Mini is also equipped with a slab 8.9 inches matte whose inclination is unfortunately quickly blocked by the very design of the chassis. Traditional webcam and microphone are part of the course, while we can find a USB port and VGA output on the left side of the device, the right side is reserved to another USB port, Ethernet port and a Port Express Card, the pleasant surprise of this model. The card reader 4-in-1 (SDHC / MS / MS Pro / MMC) is placed in front, like the audio connections.

At the chassis itself, the opening of NETBOOK is facilitated by a small tab located at the edge of the screen. If the hood of NETBOOK is easy to remove (some screws accessible bind chassis), the only updated material as possible on the memory module, which you can exchange against another capacity. Note the lack of anti-theft system and the presence of a 4-cell battery with a capacity at full load is equal to 2194 mAh.

Getting Started

What did we think of this eventually NETBOOK Fujitsu? From an aesthetic point of view, we can love, but it has not really been our case. They are particularly prominent speaker grilles at the top of the keyboard that we have displeased, as they play the sound of poor quality. In general, the space is not really optimized, thereby reducing the emphasis on key elements such as the keyboard, whose dimensions here are really too small. The result is a comfortable typing low (the usual buttons are just ridiculously small), even though the pad also has a few ergonomic flaws. The size of first (about the same as the Acer Aspire One), but also the positioning of buttons on the sides, we have not appreciated.

The button on the side of the touchpad, a good idea? Not for us ..

Somewhat poor visual (only the indicator is switched on, the battery and the activation of Wi-Fi are reported), the Amilo Mini is less stingy with regard to the keyboard shortcuts, essential to a NETBOOK. One of them is quite interesting since it allows to apply a silent mode, ie to reduce the fan speed. This does not extradite him to be particularly noisy, especially when the processor is loaded significantly.

Everything is not to lay on the NETBOOK Fujitsu because we appreciated the slab used, and just light in color. Finally, the manufacturer has had the good idea to introduce a software default named Diagnostic System which is responsible for hiding the source of any failures by rapid tests or more advanced. The Amilo Mini works only with Windows XP, no Linux version was provided to date.
