A New Locate Sensor By Nokia

Nokia Locate Sensor can help you find lost keys, phones, bags, purses or anything you’re likely to need right before you rush out the door. Revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show, it’s currently a project kicking around the labs at the Nokia Research Centre, but it’s an interesting one.
The final twist on this quirky device is that you can set it to find your Nok. If you have a tag on you but you’ve put your phone down and can’t remember where, as long as you’re within 3 metres of it the tag will alert you to its presence.
It’s still in the development stage, no doubt to make the whole design smaller and more power efficient still, and there is no world whether it will ever be released. However, we’ll definitely be keeping tabs on this one for further reference.

Nokia Locate Sensor basically a small device that that can be attached to a something that you’re worried you forget about, like your wallet or car keys. After that, the Nokia Locate Sensor will communicate wirelessly to the user’s phone via a software app, and will sound an alarm when specified events happen, such as the object moving too far away from the phone or if the sensor is dropped. There isn’t any information as to what type of connection it uses, but Bluetooth would probably be a good guess.

The tiny Locate Sensor tag - the little green gizmo - can be attached and modified to be fixed to any sort of item you can think of, and the phone app will support up to 100 items. The battery powered tag runs for up to 18 months, but if the tag is made bigger it could accommodate a bigger battery and longer life, and similarly vice versa.

If you drop something the phone application is designed to automatically alert you and help you hone in on the object within a distance of up to 100 metres. It transmits a simple signal, and doesn’t use GPS, so it can be used inside and isn’t a battery killer.

Another smart use for Nokia Locate Sensor is that it can be tweaked to work the opposite way round - so if you have a tag on your person you can set it so that if your phone is lost or goes further that say 3 metres from you, it immediately disables the handset and re-enables it when it reenters your close vicinity.

The solution to lost keys, wallets, phones, bags and so on is here - the Nokia Locate Sensor, a technology Nokia showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. A product of the Nokia Research Center, it is a physical wireless location tag (pictured above) that can be attached to stuff such as your keys or wallet, and if you drop anything or it gets nicked from your pocket the accompanying Nokia Locate Sensor app (installed on the phone) points you in the direction of the item and even tells you how far away it is.

As the name suggests, this application will help you locate things you frequently forget. Remember how frustrating it is to look for those car (or any other) keys when you do not find them? Or it could be your wallet - or any of the 100 items that you can "feed" into the applications memory. The choice is yours!

Now, simply installing this application will not ensure you will find your stuff in a jiffy. You'd need to attach a physical wireless tag to each of these items that you want to be included in the apps list of things to look for. Once you attach the tag, the application will show you how far from the phone the object is and even points you to the direction of the object. Imagine how useful this might turn out to be in case someone flicks your wallet in a crowded area!
