    Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet PC

    Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Tablet PC

Featuring durability, security, and the power of Intel’s Centrino 2 platform, this notebook offers strong performance and an even better tablet experience than its harbinger .

Lenovo scored big time with the ThinkPad X60 and X61 Tablet PCs, both of which were a decided step up from the x41. Beyond the screen size we are not seeing such a large jump with the X200, but Lenovo continues to offer users an excellent Tablet PC experience while raising the bar for the convertible Tablet PC form factor. It is an excellent combination of power and mobility.

    Design

The most noticeable changes as factor is wide screen format and how the screen fits into the bezel. The X200 has a solid chassis and design. It use the same matte black design, but new to the X200 is a bi-directional hinge, which is great for presentations.

There is a black band around the actual screen (or writing surface) that varies in width on the unit , and this keeps your pen from needing to be near the bezel in any case.

The X200 comes with the familiar track stick for navigation. There are three buttons below the space bar for left and right clicks, and a middle button that can be depressed for scrolling.

with the 8-cell extended battery ,weight in around 3.8lbs .This 12.1" tablet is still light and thin enough to take with you where you go.The X200 is packed with a good variety of features and definitely you won't be disappointed with it.

The X200 also now has two speakers on the bottom for better stereo sound instead of one speaker like on the X61 series. Battery life seems way better as well, which is an important feature for a mobile tablet. The Lenovo ThinkPads is practical and functional more than sleek or stylish .

    Display

The X200 display is 12.1" WXGA (1280x800) . It has an active digitizer. The digitizer is accurate and the pen works great. writing notes like writing on paper. The hinge is solid, so the display looks great from all viewing angles.Lenovo is claiming that they’ve improved palm rejection here for the touch implementation. The stylus is the same as on the X61.

Lenovo’s accelerometer feature includes an ActiveRotate mode that will allow you to switch the screen orientation by simply turning the Tablet PC’s in your hands. No issue of color , the display is really nice. you will have no problem for reading or viewing any documents. The screen lid closes and is secured by a latch in either slate mode or if you are closing it completely.

    Performance and Processor

With a Intel Core2Duo LV SL9400 processor (1.86GHz), 6MB of L2 cache and a 1066 MHz FSB, this unit is an excellent performer. you will get impressed with how fast the machine booted-up and ran PCMark05. you can surf the Web and ran multiple applications with no problems.

It has handled all that I’ve thrown at it with ease including some heavy duty video and audio production. It only has 2GB of RAM, and I would venture to say that adding an extra 1GB of RAM would push this Tablet PC to greater performance levels.

    Keyboard/Pen

The keys give the right amount of operation and you don't feel cramped when typing because the keyboard goes all the way to the edge of the casing. The Shift and Enter buttons are full sized, which is a nice change but the Fn keys across the top are separated in sections

The trackpoint is standard and typical of a ThinkPad design. It is accurate like a mouse and just as easy to use once you get used to it.It is comfortable to use for long periods with a rubber texture to it. It even has an eraser, which all tablet pens should have .

    security

Lenovo includes a suite of security features that allow you to secure your data. The finger print reader, like others and works well .Lenovo also includes options for you to disable ports at the BIOS level to protect against unauthorized access. The units come with trials of Norton Anti-Virus .

    Ports

It has three USB ports, 5-in-1 Card Reader, PCI ExpressCard, VGA, RJ-11 and RJ-45, microphone and headphone .The dock is small enough to travel with you or use at your desk to have four more USB ports, an optical drive and the ability to charge that spare battery.

    Heat and Fan Noise

This is a great improvement over the X61. The X200 definitely runs cooler and fan noise running far less often. It also seems to be quieter .

    Battery Life

The battery life on the X200 is supposed to be much better according to Lenovo and they claim up to 10 hours of life with the 8-cell battery that extends out the back. If you get the 4-cell they still claim 4-5 hours and the tablet weighs less.the 8-cell and it was showing 6 hours on Balanced/High Performance battery life with a full charge. You can adjust the meter in between to your liking from Energy Saver to High Performance.

    Connectivity

Lenovo offers (or will be offering) a range of connectivity options for the X200, ranging from WiFi (a/b/g/draft-N) to WWan, WiMAX, UWB, and Bluetooth

    Sound, Audio and Video

Lenovo has plant multi-media features on the X200, adding better stereo speakers and a dual array microphone. Both work excellently in testing and are a great improvement over the X61. The sound quality is quite good. Lenovo has added an optional webcam .
