Toshiba Satellite NB105 Netbook

The product of 2008, regarding the new, are netbooks, these small sub-notebooks that have revolutionized sales worldwide and is expected to achieve remarkable results for 2009, since he broke with his Asus Eee PC last year.

All manufacturers have already submitted a proposal to avoid losing NETBOOK of entry, known as initial market share. Dell, HP, Asus, Toshiba, MSI, Samsung, Acer, Lenovo, Intel, LG, BGH, all the factories and have their own brands, and try as much as possible during the next few months ... who is the only missing? Apple over the community are installing OSX on Netbooks any brand

Today we will review the NETBOOK Toshiba Satellite NB105 we were trying for 2 weeks in our daily activities. He took the juice to its small size, its weight is not hindered, and helped in some cases, transfer their holdings of women, handbags and backpacks are not designed for notebooks and we have a team that comes out of hibernation in less than 25 seconds.

The NB105 is a very practical and functional NETBOOK designed for users looking for basic functions and half, as has a good screen brightness, a full keyboard, and it is one that has decided on standard hard drives instead of SSD. The shell is hard plastic, glossy finishing on the cover and note that it is good material. Could be better aesthetics of edges and curves, but you have to save space and money, so it is understandable that missing curved design.

As for the technical details are not distinguished major differences from those of the whole competition, it has a 8.9 inch screen with a widescreen with LED technology, it comes with Intel Atom processor that runs at 1.6 GHz and low voltage , Intel GMA950 video card, one RJ45 LAN port, 3 USB 2.0 ports, SD card reader, WiFi b / g, integrated webcam and the classic security lock slot.

Two important factors make the above-average hard drive 120 GB SATA 5,400 rpm and the Windows XP operating system's original factory in Spanish. Going to the practicality, we can highlight their weight, just one kilogram with the 4-cell battery included.

As for the operating system can not say anything, the Windows XP right out of the box is easy tuning to get the maximum benefit, and comes standard with SP3 we did not have to make upgrades or upgrades. Hibernation is fast despite not having a great processor, and is accomplished in less than half a minute, which puts it above average.

The memory is sufficient, but if you want to add more memory to be a problem, since it has a single slot, and comes with a 1GB memory PC5300 DDR2 and does not support (as manual) enlargements. Who have chosen the Intel Atom N270 is also a very good thing, as is the 1.60 GHz and has 512KB of level 2 cache with 800 MHz bus speed, and this is something that is noted in the use of various applications.

The keyboard is complete, and this is very good because it adds key features and the famous Windows key, and a size of 80% of the standard, which was uncomfortable the first day but you learn to use to run the first hours of work. Has the peculiarity of having the SHIFT key, right behind the key direction of cursor up, making it cumbersome to write the fact fast as to want to push the key, 75% of the time we move the cursor to the line up. This surely is supplemented with practice and several weeks or months of use.

The touchpad has a good size and Toshiba designers had the great idea of placing the buttons below, which other netbooks to this save space, put them to the sides, something that is very difficult to get used to it.

The screen is very good and the LED backlight, with excellent brightness. The resolution could be better, but we believe that we use it enough, 1024 is now a standard but some will surely find something else. Below we see the usual two settings, environment and daylight with high brightness and low luminosity night to save energy.

WiFi is a B & G board of Atheros, which means you can use a multitude of additional applications that can be used on conventional plates notebook. We miss not having Bluetooth and has no option to add it, because today is highly used to synchronize our smartphones and headphones video conference.

The battery lasts an interesting, almost 3 hours of continuous use with WiFi working. It seems, on the scale that has an extra battery duration of 6 or more cells, but they are only 4 and the length is quite good.

In short, the ideal for those looking for something light, practical and flexible to work out all day. For some days we thought it might be the only notebook that we need, but you want to play when a game, use a more robust software, or when the memory is small, have a desktop look closely, because these are the only flaws that have these teams.

Re: Toshiba NB105 Review

My what surprises me is that these machines, which it classifies as next-generation machines come bundled with an operating system that dates back more than 6 years. Actually, what makes Windows that does not provide, for example, Linux? Are you someone in a Notebook running applications that work only on Windows, such as Photoshop, AutoCAD or similar?

I think that is worthy competitor in which Dell is working and is expected to cost less than € 400 with a resolution greater than all the current netbooks.
