Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Mobile Phone

    Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Smartphones general public know a fair amount of success. The phenomenon is probably partly to the credit of the first phone Apple. Although the iPhone is technologically flawed, it has an innovative interface that gives it a status still in hand. In fact, all competitors try to imitate him with varying degrees of success.

Sony Ericsson has proposed early smartphones that were primarily intended for professionals if only by their price and their complex interface. From the outset, the manufacturer has relied on the Symbian operating system developed by a consortium that included among others Nokia, Motorola and Psion. Thus, the Xperia X1 marks a turning point because it is the first Sony Ericsson smartphone that works with Windows Mobile.

    Features

    • Networks: Quad-band, 3G +, EDGE, GPRS
    • Dimensions / Weight: 110.5 x 52.6 x 17 mm, 145 g
    • Display: 800 x 480 pixels, 65 000 colors
    • Resolution photo: 3.15 Mpixels
    • Play MP3, AAC, MPEG-4, FM radio tuner with RDS
    • Connections: WiFi 802.11 b / g, A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP), USB 2.0
    • Memory: 400 MB MicroSD card reader

    Spoiled for choice

Rather narrow, the Xperia X1 Sony Ericsson is however particularly long and thick. The fault sliding keyboard that has nevertheless the advantage of being much more convenient than the simple touch screen to enter text. For the moment, only the Prada Phone by LG and HTC Touch Pro combines touch screen and full keyboard. The keys are small but enter text with the tip of the index should not pose problems even for those of you who have big fingers.

The finish is very careful with shell mixing plastic and brushed metal. Unlike its competitors, the Xperia X1 is not the impasse on the buttons far away. There are no fewer than nine, just below the screen. On the installment will find the right button volume control and the shutter of the camera while the standard USB port takes place on the stage left. So another break with the other phones of the mark, and you will not have to carry the cable to copy the content or to recharge the phone battery. On top is the on / off, the stylus and a standard headphone jack.

The button in the middle of the navigation pad cache also touch a mouse to navigate through menus without the touchscreen.

Finally, in addition to the main camera on the back, which is accompanied by a flash, a second sensor frontage is integrated. It is intended for video calls.

    Open your eyes

At first glance, the touch screen Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is not particularly impressive in its size. Indeed, the hull is long and buttons below integrated reduce even more the available space. The screen that can measure three inches compared to 3.2 inches of Addict Player Samsung and 3.5 inches of the iPhone. At the outset, we said that the phone drive fingers may not be a really easy. However, we must turn the Xperia X1 to discover its hidden.

Indeed, resolution of 800 x 480 pixels is downright impressive. The pictures are detailed and texts are of great finesse. Of course, an accelerometer is integrated and the display automatically switches to landscape mode depending on the angle of the phone. Still, we sometimes had difficulty validating the action of fingertip (or rather the finger given the size of some menus on Windows Mobile). In other words, Lawrence, our favorite guinea pig fingers boots, will not for one second without stylus.

    The end of an era

Until now, Sony Ericsson smartphones worked exclusively with the Symbian operating system. With the Xperia X1, the manufacturer change its tune by choosing Windows Mobile not without adding his small home interface. It takes the form of vignettes that are reminiscent Widgets, which is displayed side by side or in the form of cards stacked that scrolls. It's very nice and all benefited greatly from the high resolution to display extensive information on the screen. Still, it is really too small and it will often use the stylus for most applications. It was better for a general public.

In fact, we must keep in mind that Windows Mobile was not originally designed for use on his finger. In addition, the Xperia X1 suffers greatly from the current competition. Indeed, water has flowed under the bridge since its announcement at the show in Barcelona in February. Thus, for example HTC retouched CoverFlow interface and Samsung does not rest with the player who can Addict out of the pen. It is also the case with the LG Renoir, where the menu always as effective Viewty. The latter, like the iPhone also has the advantage of being really affordable for the novice to be quickly lost in the menus under Windows Mobile that could be described as downright gas plant.

What about the responsiveness of Xperia X1? As its use nevertheless was very brief, Sony Ericsson we have removed virtually hands, we found some really annoying slowdowns. The fault once again to the operating system from Microsoft, whatever you say, is too greedy for resources. Yet, Sony Ericsson has not skimped equipping the Xperia X1 a Qualcomm MSM7200 processor running at 528 MHz, it said. It must sometimes wait several seconds to display a menu or to close it.

Re: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Mobile Phone

    A touch of multimedia

Who said smartphone general public, media said. The Xperia X1 Sony Ericsson is equipped with a digital sensor with autofocus 3.5 Mpixels. It delivers images whose colors are quite faithful with sufficient detail and noise pretty well managed. However, there is a slight lag time between when you press the button and the actual shooting, probably because of the autofocus. The sensor is devoid of flash cache and is ineffective. Indeed, it is not used much because its scope is limited. A rigorous, if you blind your subjects amuse ... Sony Ericsson said not to be in an iPhone killer, and given the proposed camera, one is tempted to believe them. Note however that the manufacturer does not abandon its Cybershot brand and range Xperia could benefit in the years to come.

The videos are recorded in VGA at a rate of 30 frames per second. Unfortunately, it does not avoid excessive pixel and details like the colors are not as good as photo. It may nevertheless be satisfied if not to be demanding on quality.

Windows Mobile requires the player as standard is accustomed to Windows Media Player. It offers filters to find songs easily enough, but its interface is very austere. The standard headphone jack is welcome to listen to music with headphones of their choice. Good news, the internal memory is backed by a MicroSD card reader rather than the proprietary Memory Stick Micro which is much less common. Unfortunately, we must remove the battery cover to access.

Indispensable for such a high-end phone, GPS is of course no integrated navigation software is provided. To see if operators fill this gap difficult to accept given the selling price very elitist.

Yet for the price, it is reasonable to expect much better of Xperia X1. If the sensor could have fooled again last February, he appears pale beside those who equip its competitors cited above, and whose resolution reached today, 5 Mpixels and even more for a lower price. The same goes for videos that do not even compare this with the LG Viewty which dates yet of last year. The player is not really exciting but it is effective. However, it is a pity that playing videos is so long to start.

We have not failed to criticize the high price of Xperia X1 Sony Ericsson. However, be aware that a VIP service is offered by the manufacturer with specific support for Windows Mobile and a European exchange within 48 hours failure. It is the least we can do.

    Conclusion

Too late. This is the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks the Xperia X1 Sony Ericsson. Presented earlier this year, it has far too slow to reach the market while at the same time, other manufacturers offered solutions for reaching the general public. For this is the serious dilemma of this phone yet interesting on paper. Too expensive and frankly not easy to master, he nevertheless addressed to the general public is likely to prefer more suited competitors despite the hype announced. The camera is exceeded with autofocus a bit slow and ineffective flash. The touch screen that has a very high resolution is very small in terms of congestion on the phone. Even more annoying, it is ultimately difficult to operate the phone by his bias. While Sony Ericsson has made its proprietary interface on top of Windows Mobile, but in practice it will often draw the stylus.
