Decidedly PSP seems to have become the mobile home for the RPG genre. For proof, the games of the machine scratched Sony now hosts Star Ocean: The First Departure, a remake of the first part of the series released in 1996 for Super Famicom. Saga known for the dynamism of its fighting and the visual quality of each of its iterations, Star Ocean came to prominence with Till The End Of Time, the third series on PlayStation 2. We will Roake you!

In the depths of the universe, a beautifully appointed small planet is experiencing roak peaceful day. Until the day when a terrible virus that affects its residents, one by one, eventually turns into stone statues. They will be assisted in their quest by Ilia and Ronyx, member of the crew of a ship of the Terran Federation landed on the planet to help its population. After a little investigation, the five adventurers discover that the solution to the riddle of the virus ahead three hundred years ago when the planet was in Roake disastrous events ...

Sprites and environments have been completely reworked

Star Ocean: The First Departure therefore obviously the general frame of the original episode. Only staging received particular care since illustrating key cinematic history have been made by Production IG whose reputation is well known (Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, Blood: The Last Vampire or animated sequences of Kill Bill). The result is a rare quality portable console. Character-colored and sleek design, animation careful and well-paced cutting force admiration. If they are too rare, these animated sequences in any case give a new relief to the history of this first series.

Fighting dynamic but unfortunately quite drafts

But the overhaul work does not stop, fortunately! Thus, all the sprites were redrawn. We find characters in super deformed but very colorful, with a host of activities, including combat, and relatively well integrated sets 3D pre-calculated. They desperately although frozen and visually uneven remain of great finesse and offer a new face under Tri-Ace. To return to sprites monsters and characters, we regret simply a definition much more than rough environments and hence a tendency to close in pixelated. Finally, the last stage of the renovation site, the soundtrack also takes on new dimensions. The game comes fully dubbed in English but, for once, the work of American actors dubbing is quite convincing. As for the soundtrack is once again the result of house composer, Motoi Sakuraba, who rearrange the themes of beautiful manner despite some classicism. For the rest (game system, combat, menus) we invite you to watch our video commentary of a dozen minutes listing the most specific title.

Conclusion

Without being absolutely perfect, this remake of the first part of the saga Star Ocean is still fun to see. A play is a little something else as the title of Tri-Ace retains some archaic past that can repel the young. The kind of old fighters will be on them much more lenient and discover an adventure stakeholder driven by engaging characters and a rich game. A good way to book lovers of the genre.
