Windows XP won't restart from shutdown

My Windows XP SP3 is getting sick now a days. Whenever I try restarting my computer by clicking on RESTART (one out of 3 options available ShutDwn ? Restart - Standby), it wont boot up completely. I mean, it gets turn off and come back but gets stuck on black page.

Any help what could be wrong and how to fix it ?

There would be some registry conflict. You can try out fixing the same by restoring your system to any earlier working restore point.

Otherwise there is no other option than repairing you windows with installation Disk.

Hey you can just go through the below thread and try out the solution that has been mentioned there and see if it is helping:
Black screen after Windows logo and pc hangs
If that does not help then you can just refer to the below trouble shooting guide and see if it is helping.
Computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP
