Domain name in DHCP
I've recently been assigned to a company that has several domains.
In
the DCHP scope, the "DNS Domain Name" option is set with the domain
name that the workstations and users reside in along with the parent
domain with a semi-colon separating them. I cannot find anywhere any
documentation to say that this is OK. That it's ok to have 2 domain
names listed, and what seperator to use is hard to determine.
The format looks like this: child.domain.net;domain.net
Is this right? Can someone point me to some KB article that says
this
is right?

What does IPConfig /all show for the DHCP Client's
"Primary Dns Suffix" and for
"DNS Suffix Search List"
I believe you will have to set the former by hand anyway -- and
the latter should show your "list" supplied by DHCP it it works
correctly.
Compare this with (temporarily) setting a client manually.

I can't give you the specifics as far as KB or other Microsoft tidbit but if you are part of a Windows AD you can use GPO to add multiple dns suffix. If you check under the (using the MMC GPO Snap-in) Computer Config / Admin Template / Network / DNS Client you will find that you can list multiple suffix and you will type the DNS in as company.com,company2.com,company3.com (not sure how many domains you can specify). Just a comma and no spaces so its a long run on sentence.

I'm not convinced by looking at this that the
"child.domain.net;domain.net" is being handled correctly. It appears
to be seeing that as a single string and not 2 separate entries.

There is a Option # for setting DNS Suffix Search list in DHCP, it just
isn't included any any Windows Version of DHCP yet. It may be in Windows
Server 2008, but I've yet to really get into Windows Server 2008 yet.
You elude to this being a Domain environment, if that is the case, there is
a GPO to assign a custom DNS Suffix Search list.
You'll find it here:
Computer Configuration
-Administrative templates
-Network
-DNS Client
