LLTD Responder won't install
Today, I hooked up my new HP laptop running Vista Home Premium (64bit).
I have two other 32 bit computers I want to network, each of them
running XP with SP2 and SP3.
Finding the existing internet connection on my XP desktop was a snap.
However, I can't see the other computers. Microsoft says I need to
install LLTD Responder protocol on the XP machines.
I downloaded the protocol form Microsoft. So far, so good.
When I try to install on the XP SP3 machine, the program aborts, stating
my SP version doesn't need the file.
Now what do I do?
Thanks for your help.

I think SP3 for XP actually already includes it (I'm not sure as I already
had it installed long before I installed SP3). You should be able to see it
in the Properties of your WLAN/LAN connection in Network Connections.

Oh, by the way, I found a way to install the LLTD Responder on Windows
Server 2003 as well, if anybody is interested. It completes the picture on
my network map quite nicely.

RE: LLTD Responder won't install
I had this same problem and am still trying to get Microsoft support to
determine why it does not seem to be in SP3 like they say.
However, I found two ways to deal with it.
1. If you install the LLTD before you install SP3, it works fine.
2. After installing SP3 or when you do a fresh install of XP SP3, even
though the protocol won't self install you can install it youself by first
extracting the files from the windowsXP-KB922120-v5-ENU.exe file. See this
article.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828030
In the folder where you extract to you will find a folder SP2QFE.
Open this and you will find the required files.
Then copy the rspndr.sys to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder,
rspndr.exe to C:\Windows\System32 folder.
rspndr.inf (inside ip folder) to C:\Windows\Inf folder
Then open a Command prompt and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32 folder
and type rspndr.exe -i This will install the LLTD responder.

Re: LLTD Responder won't install
I have the same problem, but when I attempt to install the LLTD it errors with:
pINetCfgClassSetup->Install failed to install MS_RSPNDR: 800f0203
Failed to install lltd driver
Any Ideas?

Re: LLTD Responder won't install
I originally had that problem because I forgot to copy the rspndr.inf file to
the Windows Inf folder.

Re: LLTD Responder won't install
First, I'd like to thank those who provided the info to install the responder manually. My config is off of a Verizon FIOS: PC7 is a laptop Vista Home Prem SP1, PC3 is a laptop XP Tablet PC 2005 SP3, PC6 is a desktop XP Pro SP2, PC5 is a desktop XP Pro SP3. The non-vista PCs see each other and can map to each other, they still show the Vista PC in the Microsoft Network List, but gets not-permitted when trying to map. On the Vista machine the full network map shows all PCs, but don't show anywhere else for mapping.
Basically HELP !!
Re: LLTD Responder won't install
Thank you for this thread, my problem got partially solved by this.
The Vista Laptop does recognise the Xp one and now I can use the
printer. (very important :-).
The XP computer can't acces the Vista one but I wil keep working at it
maybe a litttle problem still.
Thanks and greetings
