Windows 2003 Standard Edition (32-bits) 4Gb Memory problem
I added 4 GB of memory on my laptop (Lenovo T60p) and put window 2003 server
std edition (32-bits) for my working and test environment.
I changed the boot.ini with /PAE. the OS can only see 3GB memory.
but suprisingly, after Vista Business SP1(32-bit), the machine can read 4GB.
I rang IBM, the reply is 32 bits can only access 3GB memory.
In microsoft, Window 2003 STD 32-bits can access 4GB memory.
Does anyone know the trick to make Window 2003 std 32-bits to read 4 GB
memory?
Re: Windows 2003 Standard Edition (32-bits) 4Gb Memory problem
The 32 bit can address and see 4 gig. It's reading 4 gig memory in 32
bits. However, at least in XP, some of that memory goes for things
like video cards, etc. Maybe it's the same in Server 2003.

Re: Windows 2003 Standard Edition (32-bits) 4Gb Memory problem
Brett,
same laptop, if I use vista Business with SP1 on it, it can see 4GB.
So I think the problem is in Window 2003.
As my laptop can have max 4 gb memory, so there is no point for me to
re-install everything, if microsoft is true that Window 2003 STD 32-bits can
access 4Gb.

Re: Windows 2003 Standard Edition (32-bits) 4Gb Memory problem
Hello Kam,
4Gb is ok with Standard 2003 32bit, you will not see them full, always round
3,2 to 3,5 rest will be used for hardware.

Re: Windows 2003 Standard Edition (32-bits) 4Gb Memory problem
You are being misled, Vista cannot use and does not use the full 4GB.
This is nothing but a cosmetic change or a smoke show in SP1, something
to shut people up. If you want to know how much memory your 32-bit
Vista can use issue the following command at an elevated command prompt:
systeminfo | findstr /c:"Total Physical"
Or look in under the Performance tab in the Task Manager.
