Windows update failed installing updates
I'm getting the yellow shield on the bottom of my screen saying: "New updates
are ready to install" but when I click on install, they all failed, I get no
failing history in windows update website or anything I could click on it an
solve the problem, in other words, windows update is not installing anything
on my computer.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Re: Windows update failed installing updates
I had to reinstall using the repair option because a software I installed
before messed up my windows.

You seem to have an aversion to pointing out what OS you have...? (Operating
System - Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional Edition, Windows
XP Tablet PC Edition, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP x64,
Windows Vista [insert version here]...?? )
I am going to guess you have Windows XP. It's just a guess - but it is an
educated one based of the percentage of machines out there with Windows XP,
your phtrasing, etc.
The solutions below have been posted in these newsgroups many times over for
'after repairing a Windows XP install - updates do not install - although
they may download fine.'...
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144
(Try it even if you did a clean, not repair, installation.)
(Try it even if you performed some sort of restore - not repair install.)
Can't figure that out?
(Only do below if you actually cannot figure out the simple instructions on
the web page above...)
Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix
Use its options to fix:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Update
- All the Registration Center options.
Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"
Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".
Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot will be needed.
- Download/Install Windows Update v3.
http://download.windowsupdate.com/Wi...gent30-x86.exe
(You *may* need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce"
right after the reboot - immediately after logging in.)
- Download/Install the 927891 patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A
- Reboot.
- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.
- Come back and let us know how things went!
