Information Bar does not appear to allow installation of activexfiles
As my subject says, I am having some problem with activex files on my Windows XP system fully patched with most recent patches from Windows Update. As I remember there was a yellow information bar which use to appear whenever I try to installing something which needs ActiveX controls. But now it is not appearing any more. I checked all security settings checked off
on enable or prompt for most combinations of the activex criteria but yet no help. Can anyone please provide some help on the same? Many Thanks.

There is an MS Article describing everything in details about the Internet Explorer Information Bar in Windows XP SP2. I think you should check the same to get the cause of th eproblem. Check this: http://support.microsoft.com/default...t=windowsxpsp2
RE: Information Bar does not appear to allow installation of activex f
Hello Siimile, One reason that can create such problems in Internet Explorer ActiveX controls may be due to defense in depth changes introduced in cumulative security update 896688. If this is a scenario, then simply go through the following steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type Notepad.exe, and then click OK.
2. Paste the following text in the Notepad document:
Quote:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
@="ClassMoniker"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32]
@="ole32.dll"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID]
@="clsid"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\CLSID]
@="{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"
3. On the File menu, click Save. The Save As dialog box appears.
4. In the Save in box, click Desktop.
5. In the File name box, type KB909889.reg.
6. In the Save as type box, click All Files, and then click Save.
7. On the File menu, click Exit.
8. On the desktop, double-click KB909889.reg, and then click Yes to add the information to the registry.
9. Click OK to confirm that the information in the KB909889.reg file has been added to the registry.
10. Restart the computer.
You can get more info about the same here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889/
Re: Information Bar does not appear to allow installation of activexf
Thank you very much for the help jigu. I don’t think the scenario matches to my problem as mentioned in the article but still I will give a try to those registry keys.
Will let you know the results. Thanks.
Re: Information Bar does not appear to allow installation of activexfiles
check to see if ActiveX Controls is disabled.
under Tools on Internet Explorer
>manage add-ons
>>enable or disable add-ons
>>>look for ActiveX Control under Type. Enable it if it is disabled.
