I'm getting this too, in Vista Ultimate x64. Here's what the update log shows:

Re: WindowsUpdate_8000FFFF WindowsUpdate_dt000
0x8000FFFF is not a very helpful error since it just means
E_UNEXPECTED
The log shows that the system is trying to obtain the latest Windows
Update Agent.
See if you can download it manually and Save it from here:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe
When the download is complete, right click WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe
and choose Run as administrator.
Did that get it installed ?
If not, what antivirus/security[firewall] suite is installed ?
Re: WindowsUpdate_8000FFFF WindowsUpdate_dt000
How about posting a solution instead of picking on people for not being
completely verbose.
I have a new Dell inspiron 531 running Windows Vista home premium.
It came pre-installed with MSWorks 8.0
Right off the bat there were problems with Windows Update giving Error
8000FFFF
5 days later Windows Update has installed several updates on it's own, but
has NEVER manually done an update successfully.
In addition, I cannot install MS Office 2007.
I get the error 0x8007054F.
I think the two problems are related.
I further think this may be due to a poor Dell install/configuration from
the start.
Let's have some resolutions please.
Windows The Most Errorable OS
Ok guys everyone suffers this errors, since mounths I'm updating my VistaHP
computer and that was working good, but since three days I installed about 17
update, three of them failed to install (KB943899, KB943078 and KB905866), my
computer begins to show me these errors:
80070002
8007371B
and after days of trying to solve these errors and at last Vista said to me:
My son take this award, you have this error (8000FFFF), and then it returned
to show that two errors. While trying to solve this problem I was thinking
about operating systems, and thinking about my experience, 8 years of using
computers and Windows 98, 95, 3.11, Mellenium, 2000, XP, and Vista. I found
that we were using unstable operating systems which were hanging, restarting,
and virus & hacker attackable, while UNIX based operating systems like Apple
Macintosh and all editions and versions of Linux and JAVA based operating
systems like Solaris are not, and some of these operating systems are free.
Microsoft wasts a Bilions of dolars and a Bilions of security fixes, making
you wasting mony. Every Windows comes slower than the version before, comes
with a new technology but older and comes with a new security solutions but
weaker.
At the end, didn't asked your self why am I using Windows?
Thank you for good listining, send me your thoughts.
Re: WindowsUpdate_8000FFFF KB929777
One thing to consider that worked for me: if you have more than 3gb of Ram
installed on a Vista computer, it does not recognize it and will cause errors
with your updates.
I spent HOURS talking to a Microsoft tech only to figure it out myself by
doing online research.
If you have 2 - 2GB memory cards in your computer, take one out and reboot.
Then try to install the updates. This should work. Good Luck!
Re: WindowsUpdate_8000FFFF WindowsUpdate_dt000
Just encountered same issues. Tried solution from Cloventrout dates Sep
30 as
follows:
1. Click on Start and in the Search box type in regedit.
2. A new program will be listed in the same window. now right click the
regedit program and then select the option run as administrator.
3. Now go into HKLM\COMPONENTS and check if these three values exist
under
the COMPONENT Key
1. PendingXmidentifier
2. NextQueueEntryIndex
3. AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving
I do not have the HKLM\COMPONENTS in the program so this solution does
not
work for me. Any other solutions to this problem ?
Re: WindowsUpdate_8000FFFF WindowsUpdate_dt000
As I mentioned previously (in fact in response to the message that this clones)
that must be a specific example of the symptom for a different cause
than the one posters in this thread are probably having.
So you will have to do your own diagnosis and find your own resolution.
