Unable to Access Windows Update Website
Hi, i cannot access the Windows Update website. When i first clicked on the
website, the Internet Explorer will hang while it is checking for the latest
version of Windows Updating Software...Then, an error message will apear,
indicating that' Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience'.
There is no error code displayed and the details for the error message are:
Appname: iexplorer.exe
Appver: 7.0.6000.16441
Modname: wuweb.dll
Mod Ver: 5.8.02469
Offset: 00018003
I'm using Internet Explorer 7 and Windows XP SP2.
I have also tried to run Windows Update from my Firefox browser but the same
problem occurs.
I have run CCleaner and scanned my computer for viruses and other stuff but
it still doesn't work. Pls advise.
Thanks and Regards
Clive
Re: Unable to Access Windows Update Website
Try installing the new WU client and apply the hotfix
When you use Automatic Updates to scan for updates or to apply updates to applications
that use Windows Installer, you experience issues that involve the Svchost.exe process
http://support.microsoft.com:80/kb/932494
.....Quote from Mow ....
Navigate to where WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe was saved and click once on it
Click the Open button
In the Open: line, click once on WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
It should now be highlighted in blue
Click once after the last quotation mark "
Push the Space Bar on the keyboard and enter /wuforce
The entry should now look like this
"C:\<locationoffile>\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce
Note the space after the last quotation mark and the /
Click OK or press Enter
Then download, save, close the browser, and install KB927891
NOTE: KB927891 is NOT supported nor intended for Vista

Re: Unable to Access Windows Update Website
Hi TaurArian
I tried the below instructions, but i got another error message while
installing the new WU client: Install failed with the following error number:
0x80070020.
I have tried disabling my antivirus and firewall before installing the file,
but the same error message appears.
Also, how do i go about adding the /wuforce to the file? When i click
'open', the application will start installing, and i do not see an
exclamation mark after the filename. I also cannot rename the file with the /
and spacebar.
Pls advise
Thanks and Regards

Re: Unable to Access Windows Update Website
1. You receive a "0x80070020 The process cannot access the file because it is
being used by another process" error message when you try to download an
update from Windows Update or from Microsoft Update
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;883825
2. Perhaps this will be easier -
If you need to reinstall the ActiveX controls (because they may have become
corrupt):-
Follow this article -
The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan
for updates when you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack
2 or of Windows XP Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916259
Note: WU Client 3.0 - Windows Update Agent
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe
or for the 64 bit versio
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe

Re: Unable to Access Windows Update Website
Hi TaurArian
I have tried the below 2 methods, but i still cannot install the WU Update
client.
Furthermore, i could not delete some of the files highlighted in the
reinstalling of the ActiveX controls.
Also, i do not know how to add in the / wuforce in the WU update client exe
file (WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe). I do not understand the instructions as
follows:

Re: Unable to Access Windows Update Website
After downloading the WU 3.0 client, did you try -
"then extract the files to a temp folder.
Open the temp folder, right-click Wusetup.inf, and then click Install"
as mentioned in this article:-

Re: Unable to Access Windows Update Website
Clear out your temporary internet files
Run some hard disk maintenance like chkdsk, defrag
Then you may need to re-registered some files:
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-
net stop wuauserv
Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
net start wuauserv
Try again.
Starting to run out of ideas here.

Provide a *detailed* symptom description.
What is of "no use" is you saying just that.
The symptoms so far look as if you aren't completely following instructions
e.g. not stopping the wuauserv service and confirming that it has stopped.
BTW I think we are assuming that your initial report contained a typo
>> > > > > > > | Appname: iexplorer.exe
because if it was not really iexplore.exe you would be running a known
Trojan of IE7.
Also, FYI crashes in normal modules are often symptom of interference from
third-party programs, so you should have disabled or removed such programs
to see if your symptoms changed. You won't be able to use the full No Add-ons
mode to do that test because WU requires ActiveX extensions.
But you could at least try starting it under a safe boot with networking
or use the Tools, Manage Add-ons feature to ensure all non-Microsoft
extensions have been disabled. Etc.
Good luck
