Windows XP and Realtek AC97 audio drivers
I hope someone can help me out with this. I recently had to reinstall XP and
although I've downloaded and installed the most recent drivers my onboard
realtek ac97 audio still doesn't work.
I've checked out the device properties and Windows tells me that the device
is working properly but the drivers haven't been loaded.
Now then, I've searched microsoft's webiste and have found that there is a
Microsoft update for the realtek audio drivers, but every time I go to the
windows update site and set it to retrieve a list of available updates (so
that I can choose the right one) it takes absolutely ages and in the end IE
just returns that there has been an error.
Can someone please tell me what's going on and what I can do to fix this
problem. The audio was working on the motherboard before I had to reinstall
(probably because the update had been added automatically) but it just
doesn't want to work now.
Thanks for all your help.
Alan

RealTek AC97 drivers are here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True
Do not expect Microsoft to have the latest drivers for this ietm, and I
would not use them any way. Always get the latest drivers from the
individual hardware /chip manufacturers.
