Installing Anti-Virus Software in Safe Mode

I’ve a desktop computer at home running with Windows XP Home. Am using this computer since a year but as I don’t connect any external device with this computer I dint installed any Antivirus considering it will be safe. But don’t know why since last four days my computer is just not able to boot in Normal mode. It can only be booted into safe mode. I guess it is somehow got infected.

So I wanted to install Antivirus and scan the computer but as it is not booting into normal mode, I thought to do the same in safe mode. But it seems like I cannot install anything in safe mode. Tried various other softwares as well but none of them gets installed.

Can somebody please tell me how can install Antivirus in safe mode so that it can be scanned? Thanks for all you helps.

Instead of asking how to install Antivirus in Safe mode you must first look out why your system is unable to boot in normal mode.

Also when you install any software on a windows computer it requires Microsoft installer Package and will require the service for installing any software that can only be run in Normal Mode.

So you must first try to fix to make it boot in Normal Mode.

If your system is infected and is not able to boot into Normal mode, than I’ll better suggest you to try repairing your system with the installation CD and if still it wont able to boot than simply reformat your C drive and install XP again.
