How come FSX is only using 1 core on a dual core system.......
I am using a Gaming PC with Intel X6800 Core 2 processor and running with Windows Vista. Now a days i am playing FSX on this system. Though the game is running fine but many times i noticed that one of the cores runs at very high utilization (80-100%) and the other is very low (10-20%).
Anyone else playing FSX here on Vista? Can you tell me whether this game is not optimized for multi-threaded operations? Or is it Vista's problem? Thanks for your helps.
Re: How come FSX is only using 1 core on a dual core system.......
Neither the problem is with FSX game nor with Windows Vista because even i am playing this on my Vista desktop and in my case both cores are at around 50%. Probably there is something wrong with your system itself. The trouble is going back and re-engineering the existing code from the previous product is extremely expensive compared with working with what you've already got an expanding on it.

I have been reading several articles on FSX game from past few hours and finally got something interesting. According to the ACES team on the game's support forums, it does take advantage of multiple threads. As i am also playing the game, on my system it uses 75% and 25% on each core.

Hello Generosity, FSX supports multiple threading for sure. The problem is somewhere from your side itself. Hence here are few steps which i think you should go through and see if it works.
1. Start the game, and then press the Windows logo key on the taskbar or press "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" to open the Task Manager window.
2. Click on the Processes Tab
3. Right click "FSX.exe" process and left click on SET AFFINITY
4. Please confirm if the check marks for CPU 0 and CPU 1 have been checked.
5. Close the Task Manager window, and maximize the game.
Apart from this i will also suggest you to go through the following MS Article describing known graphics-related issues that you may experience when you
play Flight Simulator X: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925722/en-us

I have an FX-60 dual core system. In Device Manager I show 2 processors and in task manager I have 2 CPU windows. I am using an ASUS mb with updated bios and a vista driver for it though.

Hi all,
I have a Hexacore AMD processor... on my first install of FSX I found I was running all six cores at 100%.
I reinstalled, and now only one core is utilised, at about 80%... yet my fps hasn't dropped I don't think, although FSX is a little slow at times, getting maximum 30fps and minumum 10fps!
Why has this changed?
