MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978) - Google Toolbar - Internet Explorer 7 Er
After installing this update, and rebooting my PC, I opened Internet Explorer
7 (IE7) and an Error occured because of my Google Toolbar and IE would close
as soon as the error report was sent to MS. I disabled the toolbar but then
MS Update would not work. Long story short, "Anton" had the info to get it
fixed.
Worked for me!
As per "Anton":
"Just re-register the Windows Update files manually:
- Start/Run, type cmd
net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml2.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml3.dll /s
regsvr32 urlmon.dll /s
net start wuauserv
regsvr32 softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 jscript.dll /s
Then restart your computer.

Anton Pegan"
Thanks!

IOW, one would be wise NOT to install Toolbars at all.
IMO, the "benefits" of said Toolbars are outweighed by the issues they
present, specifically, SECURITY issues.

Re: MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978) - Google Toolbar - Internet Explorer
Hey MowGreen,
I respect your opinion and suggest that everyone read/know what they're
installing (toolbar wise). Cautious is smart. (fyi I didn't install all of
Google Toolbar's features, like "page rank" some are a little too
intrusive...).
Anyways, I posted this comment as a note to users of the toolbar.
***It was ACTUALLY the Microsoft "MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB927978)",
for some "ActiveX" vulnerability issues, that broke my IE7!
With or without the Google toolbar installed, the update kept breaking IE7.
After the update was installed, I could no longer access MS Update!!!
MS Update would scan my PC, for a few seconds, then tell me "files were
missing" and it couldn't restore them when it tried (fun error loop;-), so I
had to SYS restore, and try again, and again.
I x-posted the solution I found, under this heading, because after I
installed the MS update, the first problem I came across was that the
googletoolbar.dll would not work anymore (because of MS) and IE7 would crash
over and over, untill I disabled the "add-on".
Then IE7 would open, and I noticed some problems with webpages, on my way
to MS Update, and that's when the main problem became clear quite quickly.
It took me a while to find the solution, from another member, and I thought
I'd try to save some others, the time and frustration, if they find this post.
I wish MS would just fix the update file and repush it; why should I have to
go to the command prompt, stop MS auto-update manually, register the update
files and restart MS auto-update? (fix it...)
I hope this helps,

Re: MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978) - Google Toolbar - Internet Explorer
Hey,
I'm trying to get my copy of IE7 to work. I'm having the same error on
starting IE7:
Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.
Error signature:
AppName: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 7.0.5730.11
ModName: msxml3.dll
ModVer: 8.70.1113.0
Offset: 000119d9
I do not have Google toolbar installed but this thread is the closest
to my problem that I've been able to find. Also, I have tried the
solution listed above and it was unsuccessful.
Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Tom.

Re: MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978) - Google Toolbar - Internet Explorer 7 Er
Hi I also run into the same problem IE7 failed immediately and the
cause always msxml3.dll
I found a friendly solution =>
Go to Accessories/System Tools
and start IE with no Add-ons
When you get your IE7 running again you can go to Tools; Internet
Options ; Advanced.
There at the bottom of the page is Reset ...
This will return you to your starting point with IE7.
happy browsing / happy Christmas
