Prob w/new Disney/Pixar "Cars" game
Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron system running with Windows XP Service Pack 2. As my subject line says, i downloaded and installed the Cars game on this PC without any problem but when i try to launch the same, it ends up with an error message saying:
"Cars.exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down"
Any idea what is wrong? I even tried re-installing the game but the result is same. Is this one of those situations where you just end up waiting until someone creates a patch? Or there is something wrong within my system itself? Please help. I really need to play this game.
Thank you.
Re: Prob w/new Disney/Pixar "Cars" game
Hi, i dont know what could be the actual cause of the problem as you haven't provided enough detail about the system such as graphic card, you meet the game's system requirement or not, and so on. Hence here are few things i will suggest you to go through and see if any of them helps you out:
- Restart your computer by using a clean boot procedure
- Remove and Reinstall the Game
- Adjust graphics hardware acceleration
- Disable AGP Texturing in the DirectX Diagnostic tool
- Temporarily disable the sound card in Windows
- Lower sound acceleration
- Download and install the most recent version of DirectX
- Update your video driver
- Update your sound driver
- Scan your computer for viruses
- Remove spyware
- Install the latest VIA chipset drivers
- Create a new user account in Windows XP
- Change the compatibility setting

Re: Prob w/new Disney/Pixar "Cars" game
I dont know how true it is but as per my searches on web i found many articles saying that you may come across such problems with Games if you have Service Pack 2 installed on your system. So the one thing i can suggest you is try to uninstall Service Pack, restart the system, Re-install the game and see if it makes any difference.
Let us know the result so that it can help other people as well.
Re: Prob w/new Disney/Pixar "Cars" game
I have had the exact same problem with this game and my Dell. The readme.txt states that the game will only work with an NVIDIA or ATI external PCI driven video card. This seems like a rather unusual requirement for a game, but my Dell has an on-the-board Intel video card, so I suspect that this is the problem. I am not aware of any patches available yet for this problem, but since I purchased the game at a retail super-store, and half the people in the US have Dell computers, I suspect they will eventually tire of giving people refunds on the game. Let me know if you hear about anything.

It can be Video card problem as well. First of all make sure you have the most recent drivers installed. And if still you getting the problem then just go through the following steps:
1. Click Start / Run / type: dxdiag. Click the Display Tab. Look under Device for the name and manufacturer
2. Click Start / (Settings) Control Panel, Click Display, Click the Settings Tab, Click the Advanced... button, Click the Adapter Tab
3. Click Start / Run / type: msinfo32, Click on the + Components, Click on Display to see the name on the right
4. Use Belarc to see indentify your Video, Chipset and Motherboard:
5. Get the information from the manufactures website (or store)
6. Look on the Video card itself if you plug into a card, or
7. Look in your Motherboard manual if you plug into the on board video built into the motherboard of your computer.
