RE: Error number: 0x8DDD0018
I still can't find anything further on this. Do you have ZoneAlarm or another
firewall installed ? Did you disable any other services ? Also, my MS Office
Update seems to work fine -just the Windows Update, which originally worked
okay when Windows was first installed, fails with the above-mentioned error.
RE: Error number: 0x8DDD0018
I had this problem today. I noticed that the URL that my system was connecting
to was the old v5... update site. I went the long way around, www.microsoft.com
, and followed the links there to the new update site. { I bookmarked the new
site. ] No problem after that.
RE: Error number: 0x8DDD0018
this works!:
run this command from a command
prompt:
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
and after running this and setting all of the above-mentioned services to
start automatically the WU worked okay for me.
RE: Error number: 0x8DDD0018
.... i don't know why but it is not working for me... it will write that
regsvr32 was successful but the update page i still working... i think that
the reason of my problem with the Error number: 0x8DDD0018 is because i had
virus - the Virtumonde trojan horse - and i had to delete some of (maybe)
important files from windows folder... so it is not still working for
me...pls help :(
RE: Error number: 0x8DDD0018
I also have this error due to malware called "vundo" that infected my pc.
I tried all what was suggested from the thread running regsvr32.exe on
different dll. It did not work, till somewhere along in the thread I saw a
suggestion to go to superantispware.com and download superantispyware
software. It is free. I did that and run and behold my problem is fix. I can
do automatic update now from microsoft.
I have another problem now. One of the file quarantine was by the software
was "rxsinevf.dll". Every time I boot my system I got error in loading as it
cannot find it on my windows/system32. I just ignore it. I can restore the
file but I am worried it might be infected. I don't know what this rxsinevf
dll function is.
Re: Error number: 0x8DDD0018
Make sure that you have automatic updates turned on.
Make sure that the Remote Procedure Call Locator is not disabled:
Click Start, select Run and type in:
services.msc
Locate " Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator".
If it is disabled, then right click on it, go to 'Properties', change to 'manual' and
Apply.
Try Windows Update Again

[Error number: 0x8DDD0018]
Microsoft Update was working properly up until about a month ago and now when
MU runs a scan on my computer checking to see which updates I need I will
receive the error number in the subject line.
I checked to make sure that Background Inteligent Transfer Service is
running which it was along with Event Log however when I clicked start under
Automatic Updates, List of Services I received a dialog box that states "it
is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it".
I would appreciate a reply from anyone who might have experience with this
error number or who might understand what is currently going on with my
computer.
Thanks in advance.

I have Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
When I boot up, I get an error message from Windows Update saying it's been
disabled and I could get viruses..... I click on Windows Update in the
tools section of Explorer and this error message displays. [Error number:
0x8DDD0018]
I have tried to do the "Run" services.msc and try to change the Automatic
Update to Startup Type: Automatic. However, when I try to start it I continue
to receive an error message that says:
Could not start Automatic Updates Service on Local Computer.
Error 1058: The service cannot be started, ether because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
Can anyone help??
Thanks,
Sandi

First - ensure you do not have "Vundo". Clean it up if you do.
It seems possible that your Windows installation has been deliberately
damaged by a trojan (Vundo, along any uninvited guests. (SDBot and ZLOB, all
protected by a rootkit.)) so as to prevent you updating your system or
removing the trojan.
Your first priority must be to cleanse your PC of all malware.
A very good antimalware app is SUPERAntiSpyware.
There is a free version (on demand scanning only), the paid for version
includes active monitoring, similar to Windows defender:

E.g. using the web interface that you are posting from
press Alt-7 and enter those words.
In this particular case there have been so many satisfied participants
who also use the web interface that you can even use the Answered Questions

E.g. press Alt-i Enter CursorDown, CursorDown, Enter
after your search returns results.
Notice though that normally you will not be able to use the filters
successfully

enough users of the web interface bother to come back and mark posts that
