Error number: 0x8DDD0004 - ActiveX not working
Does anyone know the root cause of this error: 0x8DDD0004 when attempting to
use the Windows Update site. I have read all the posts and have run through
all the supposed fixes, but the problem still persists. ActiveX seems to be
totally disabled even though the security settings indicate otherwise.
The laptop I am working on had Winfixer on it. Have since removed it. AOL
Spyware, ADware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy all indicate that the
machine is clean.
There was a corrupted file in C:\windows\Downloaded Program Files\. I
removed it, but still no luck. The WUWeb Control Class is enabled. I have
added the windows update sites to the trusted zone. I have re-registered all
the recommended DLL's.
Any other thoughts/ideas? Is there a way to re-install ActiveX
functionality?
Thx,

Re-install Windows Update files
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x86.exe
Note If you have an x64-based computer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v6...gent20-x64.exe
Click Save in the File Download-Security Warning dialog box, and then select the location where you
want to save the file.
Double-click the file that you saved
NB - A note from Torgeir Bakken [MVP]
Note that if it says "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is already installed.", run
the exe with the command line switch /wuforce, like this:
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce
