Error code: C00D1059 "Windows Media Player cannot play the file

I have some videos in wmp format but when i am trying to run them with windows media player in my system running windows vista than i am getting below error message:
Error code: C00D1059 "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player does not support the format you are trying to play."

I want to know if the wmp format file that you have is having any copy right protection or something?? Have you tried playing those files using some other media player?? let me know if you get any error while playing them in some other media player.
