Can't Install Windows MCE 2005 - corrupt disk #2, missing mcdftreg
I am not able to install Windows Media Center Edition 2005 since I think that MCE disk number 2 has been corrupted. First I am trying to boot from disk 1 and doing a clean installation. After that I am using product key from microsoft website. The installation process is successful and then the computer will restart and after reboot the second part of the installation starts. So, when the installer asks for disk #2 then it will continuously ask for disk 1 and then disk 2 many times. So, therefore I copied the CD to the hard drive and when I finally get to the point where the installer wants the file "mcdftreg.ini" on disk #2 then it will not accept it when I insert disk #2. I have tried to search for many forums for this solution but cannot find any fix. Is there anyone who can help me out?

Are you a MSDN subscriber, if so, then you will be able to get the MCE 2005 on a pair of disks as a part of your package or perhaps updates. After that try to install the same from that disks.

I dont think that the second disk is asked for, after restarting the computer. I assume that the second disk will be asked for before restarting the computer. The memory could be giving some kind of error, check that.

I did not try to unzip the cab file but I checked something, that when it asked for that particular file during installation, then I just guided it at the Cab file containing the requested file and then it started to install properly without any issues.
